Did you know that there are about 250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet? Sweaty feet can be normal from time to time, but some people suffer from excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. This can be embarrassing not to mention lead to other conditions like Athlete’s foot and cracked skin. Sweat doesn’t typically smell. However, in the presence of excessive moisture, skin bacteria break down sweat which causes an unpleasant odor.
Below I have included some preventative measures and treatment options.
Prevention
- Wash your feet daily with antibacterial soap. Hibiclens Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is a great option and can be found over the counter at your local pharmacy.
- Dry your feet well after washing, especially in between the toes.
- Rotate shoes daily so that they can dry between wear.
- Change your socks daily or more than once a day depending on how much your feet sweat and your activity.
- Wear socks made from materials that wick moisture such as: polyester, wool, and cotton.
