Fun Fact Friday

Did you know…Adults lose about ½ a pound of muscle per year after age 30. This is called Sarcopenia and happens to everyone.

Over time, that adds up.

Less muscle means:
• Slower metabolism
• Decreased strength
• Higher risk of injury
• Reduced independence as we age

But here’s the good news…

Regular strength training can prevent up to 80% of that muscle loss.

That’s powerful. It means you’re not stuck with the “normal aging” narrative. You have control.

Here’s how to fight back:

• Strength train 2–3x per week
Consistency beats intensity every time.

• Focus on full-body functional movements
Train how your body is designed to move in real life.

• Prioritize recovery
Muscles don’t grow during workouts. They grow when you rest.

Aging is inevitable. But losing strength doesn’t have to be.

If you want to experience the difference for yourself, come try the ONLY gym in the area specializing in Fitness Over 40. Visit www.clarksburgfitness.com to learn more about our trial membership.

Nutrition Tip

If you want to improve your health, support fat loss, and feel better day-to-day…

Start with this: FOCUS ON WHOLE FOODS.

We’re constantly surrounded by highly processed, hyper-palatable foods designed to make you eat more… not feel better.

They’re convenient.
They taste great.
But they don’t do your body many favors.

Whole foods, on the other hand, do the opposite.

Here’s why they matter:

• Higher nutrient density
Foods like lean meats, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains provide the vitamins and minerals your body actually needs to function well.

• Better satiety
Whole foods keep you fuller, longer. Which means fewer cravings and less mindless snacking.

• More stable energy
Less blood sugar spikes and crashes. More consistent energy throughout the day.

• Support for long-term health
Heart health, metabolism, digestion — whole foods support it all.

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to be perfect.

But it does mean being more intentional.

A few simple ways to add more whole foods into your day:

• Build your meals around a protein source (chicken, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt)
• Add a fruit or vegetable to every meal
• Keep simple options on hand (apples, bananas, pre-cut veggies, nuts)
• Do most of your shopping on the perimeter of the grocery store

Small changes. Big impact!

Never Miss A Monday 🟢

When people think about fitness after 40, the focus is usually on:

Nutrition.
Strength.
Mobility.

And those are all incredibly important.

But there’s another piece that often gets overlooked… ATHLETICISM.

• Coordination.
• Agility.
• Balance.
• The ability to start, stop, and change direction.

That’s what you’re seeing in this video.

And no, this isn’t about training to become a professional athlete. This is about training for real life. Because in everyday life, you don’t move in straight lines at a controlled pace.

• You react.
• You adjust.
• You catch yourself.
• You change direction quickly.

And as we age, maintaining those abilities becomes even more important.

It can be the difference between catching yourself… and taking a fall.

The goal isn’t just to be strong. It’s to be capable.

To move well.
To react well.
To stay confident in your body.

So yes... lift heavy weights.
Yes... focus on nutrition and mobility.

But don’t forget to train how your body is actually used.

That’s how you stay active, independent, and injury-resistant for years to come.

And if you're interested in starting your fitness journey at the ONLY gym in the area specializing in Fitness Over 40, visit us online at www.clarksburgfitness.com to learn aout our trial memberships.

Fun Fact Friday: Build Your Brain

Exercise doesn’t just strengthen your body… it can actually grow your brain.

Research shows that regular physical activity can increase the size of the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory and learning.

Translation? Moving your body helps you stay sharp, focused, and mentally strong as you age.

So the next time you go for a walk, lift weights, or get a workout in, remember — you’re not just training your muscles…

You’re upgrading your brain. 💪🧠

If you're over 40 and looking to get stronger, lose weight, improve overall health AND boost that brain power, check us out online to learn more about our trial membership: www.clarksburgfitness.com.

Never Miss A Monday... Even on Spring Break!

Some of you are traveling.
Some are enjoying a staycation.
Either way, your routine is a little different this week.

And that’s okay.

But here’s your friendly (and honest) reminder…

This is where a lot of people fall off.

Not because they need rest, but because they slip back into old, sedentary habits.

Spring break doesn’t mean stop moving.

It means adjust.

If you can get in 1–2 strength sessions at Clarksburg Strength & Fitness, great.
If not, shift your focus:

• Get your walks in
• Stay active throughout the day
• Move your body in any way you can

This week isn’t about setting PRs.
It’s about maintaining momentum.

Because progress isn’t just about what you do at your best…
It’s about what you do when life gets busy, schedules change, and routines get disrupted.

Stay consistent.
Stay active.
Don’t go backwards.

👉 Action step: Get at least one intentional walk in today. NO EXCUSES!

That’s how we Never Miss A Monday.

Fun Fact Friday: Your Heart Never Takes a Day Off

Your heart beats roughly 100,000 times every single day.

That’s over 36 million beats a year — quietly working in the background to keep you alive, moving, and doing the things you love.

Which is exactly why cardio matters.

Your heart is a muscle. And just like any other muscle in your body, the stronger it is, the better it performs, and the longer it keeps working for you.

The good news? Strengthening your heart doesn’t require anything extreme.

Here are a few great ways to keep it strong:

• Daily walks around the neighborhood
• Cardio sessions here at Clarksburg Strength & Fitness
• Bike rides, hikes, or outdoor adventures
• Playing outside with your kids or grandkids
• Swimming, rowing, or interval training

Remember, the goal isn’t just to live strong through strength training.

It’s also to live long by taking care of your heart.

Train your muscles.
Train your heart.
Your future self will thank you. ❤️

We’re seeing a trend in the fitness industry right now.

A lot of gyms are suddenly deciding they want to train the 40+ market.

They run a few ads.
Change some wording on their website.
Maybe rename a program or two.

And just like that… they think they’ve entered a new market.

But it doesn’t work that way.

You don’t market your way into a demographic.
You build your gym to support that demographic.

Training adults over 40 requires a different approach:
• Different equipment
• Different programming
• Different coaching language
• Different atmosphere
• Different pricing models
• Different messaging

When Clarksburg Strength & Fitness was built, everything was intentionally designed around adults over 40. From the programming and equipment selection to how we coach and communicate with members. It wasn’t a marketing decision, it was the entire business model.

And stories like Chris are exactly why.

Chris has been training with us for just over a year. In that time he’s lost more than 50 pounds, dramatically improved his strength, and completely changed his health trajectory.

That philosophy is also what inspired Coach Corey's new book “Your Midlife Reimagined: A Complete Guide to Strength, Cardio, Nutrition and Longevity After 40.” We don't just talk about Fitness Over 40... We SPECIALIZE in it!

So if you’re over 40 and want to see what training should look like at this stage of life, we’d love to help.

After what feels like a very long stretch of cold, gray weather… this week is supposed to be beautiful.

Let’s take advantage of it.

Sunshine, fresh air, and time outside do more for your health than most people realize. Being outdoors can improve mood, reduce stress, boost Vitamin D levels, and even increase your overall energy.

And movement outside often doesn’t feel like “exercise” at all.

This week, consider trading in the treadmill or Peloton for something outdoors:

• Go for a walk around the neighborhood
• Take a bike ride
• Find a local trail and go for a hike
• Get outside and play with your kids
- Throw a ball, play a game of HORSE, or teach them how to hula hoop

Movement doesn’t always have to happen inside a gym.

Sometimes the best workouts are the ones that look a lot like play.

So if the sun is shining this week, step outside and enjoy it.

Your body (and your mind) will thank you.

And if you're looking for a strength training program specifically designed for those 40 and older, check out Clarksburg Strength & Fitness. We're the area's ONLY gym specializing in Fitness Over 40.

Fun Fact Friday: Where Does Fat Actually Go?

When you lose fat, most of it doesn’t turn into energy… and it doesn’t magically disappear.

You actually breathe it out.

That’s right. When your body breaks down fat, it’s converted into carbon dioxide and water. About 84% leaves your body through your lungs when you exhale. The rest leaves through sweat, urine, and other fluids.

So technically… every breath out during a workout is helping your body get rid of fat. 💪

Before everyone starts hyperventilating in the gym, the key isn’t breathing harder. The key is moving more, which increases your metabolism and the amount of carbon dioxide your body produces.

Lift heavy weights. Walk more. Stay active.
Your lungs will handle the rest.

And if you're looking for workouts and a community specifically designed for the 40+ crowd, we invite you to come check out the ONLY gym in the area specializing in Fitness Over 40! Send us a DM or visit us at www.clarksburgfitness.com!

“The job of a coach is to believe in a client’s possible success more than they believe in their own probable failure.”

Go ahead and read that again!

In everyday life, our clients are constantly collecting evidence of what didn’t work.

Missed workouts.
Failed diets.
Injuries.
Setbacks at work.
Stress at home.

Over time, those experiences shape belief.

Psychologist Albert Bandura’s Self-Efficacy Theory tells us that belief in one’s ability to succeed directly impacts performance. If someone believes they can’t, effort drops. Persistence fades. Outcomes follow.

Add in what Carol Dweck calls a fixed mindset (the belief that abilities are limited) and clients are walking into sessions already doubting themselves.

That doubt doesn’t always show up loudly.
Sometimes it looks like hesitation.
Sometimes it looks like “I’m just not athletic.”
Sometimes it looks like self-deprecating humor.

And this is where coaching becomes more than programming.

Quite often the bridge between where a client is and where they’re capable of going is borrowed belief.

They don’t need hype. And they don’t need cheerleading.

They need someone steady.
Someone credible.
Someone who sees the version of them that hasn’t happened yet, and treats it as inevitable.

Research supports it. Experience confirms it.

Belief changes behavior.
Behavior changes outcomes.

As fitness professionals, our job isn’t just to write sets and reps.

It’s to hold the vision when our clients can’t see it themselves.

Never Miss A Monday 💪

Over the past several years, we’ve seen a big shift in the fitness world.

Strength training has (rightfully) taken center stage.

And I’m here for it!

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know strength training is still my go-to for fat loss, muscle preservation, metabolic health, and long-term independence.

But here’s what I’m seeing lately…

The pendulum has swung so far toward lifting that many people have pushed cardio completely out of their routine.

That’s not the answer either.

Cardio matters!

Your heart is a muscle.
Your lungs matter.
Your aerobic system fuels everything else you do.

Cardio improves:
• Work capacity
• Recovery between sets
• Heart health
• Energy levels
• Longevity

And no... cardio doesn’t mean hours on a treadmill.

It can be:
• Brisk walking
• Biking
• Swimming
• A Cardio/Core session here at Clarksburg Strength & Fitness

Strength builds the engine.
Cardio keeps it running efficiently.

If you’ve drifted away from it, consider this your Monday nudge to bring it back.

Train strong.
Train smart.
Train completely.

And if you're wanting to try out the ONLY gym in the area specializing in Fitness Over 40, visit us online at www.clarksburgfitness.com or send us a DM to schedule a tour.
