Gold information right here! We do not learn about fascia enough, the key to correction is understanding that the pain we feel isn't always originating from the place we feel it. It's all connected!
THIS is how your massage therapist, your physical therapist and even your personal trainer should respond.
DONT EVER SETTLE for a Healthcare practitioner telling you, "were just going to give you pain meds."
Ask questions and allow them to ask questions. Questions provide feedback, which provides more insight into the root cause, NOT just the symptoms. Asking questions and getting more knowledge about your pain as a whole, allows us to provide a better treatment plan and refer out if necessary.
Massage therapists absolutely cannot diagnose, so please dont expect us to "fix you," but we can make life for you much more physically comfortable and we do work alongside other Healthcare practitioners that can look into things on a deeper level for you.
Stop settling for mediocrity when your concerns deserve so much more than that.

To provide pain and tension relief unique to your body.
Exhale Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, LLC is solely dedicated to improving and supporting our client's health and wellness the natural way. With over 11 years of knowledge and continuing education, we pride ourselves on a more clinical approach to massage. We strive to create each session as unique as the client on the table.
A “full body” approach is relaxing and all, but sometimes dealing with pain requires a much more specific angle, which is why we prefer to work the problem out first while shying away from a general full body massage. We reserve that for the maintenance phase when the pain has gone or is very little.
With more than 26 million people between the ages of 20 and 64 having chronic back pain and more than 25 million having migraines, it’s no secret how pain negatively impacts our everyday living. We succumb to it like a fly to a bug zapper. It’s palpable and sometimes physically noticeable in everyone we see. Look around. People are walking around hunched, leaning forward with stuck shoulders and craned necks, unbalanced while favoring one side of the body, permanently held captive to what they consider their “normal” shape. The truth is, being a prisoner of pain isn’t normal. So what do we do about the pain? Naturally, we spend thousands of dollars in many doctor visits trying to “fix” it or even gain an ounce of relief. According to a study provided by the American Pain Society (yes, it’s a real association) in 2012 written by health economists from John’s Hopkins University, the annual cost of chronic pain was as high as $635 billion per year. That’s not even including the fact that pain leads to missed time from work. To be exact (from the same study), $229-$334 billion annually. That’s crazy! It’s also been proven that chronic pain can lead to chronic depression, we’d rather not look up the annual cost for that. I believe we have made a pretty clear point. And this study was back in 2012, imagine what these statistics are today. We haven’t looked to honest (were a little scarred to), but with the advances massage is making we hope those stats are plummeting, or at least heading in that direction.
So what can massage do for YOUR pain or discomfort? While we recognize that we are not “healers” and sometimes a more medical approach is necessary for pain and recovery, we are proud of what massage has accomplished when it is part of a therapeutic regimen. That’s right, in order to reap results massage has to be approached just like any other therapy plan. You didn’t get like this over night, you EARNED that pain over the years through chronic abuse on the body and repetitive motions day in and day out. How can you expect to fix it all in ONE session??? The dose matters. Physical therapists may start you off twice a week and as you progress they will want to see you less and less, it is the same with chiropractic care, occupational therapy and so on. Why should massage be any different when it comes to pain?
A systematic review and meta-analysis, published in the journal Pain Medicine (2016), included 60 high-quality and seven low-quality studies that looked into the use of massage for various types of pain, including muscle and bone pain, headaches, deep internal pain, fibromyalgia pain, and spinal cord pain. The review revealed that massage therapy does in fact relieve pain. In addition, massage therapy also improved anxiety and health-related quality of life. Included factor's are: Biomechanical, Physiological, Neurological and, Psychological. The benefits of massage therapy for pain relief are established enough that it's commonly used during physical therapy and rehabilitation from injury (Did you know that massage therapy is now in over 80% of hospitals and being used to aide in cancer?). In one study, researchers took muscle biopsies from study participants who had received massage therapy or no treatment for exercise-induced muscle damage. It turned out that massage therapy reduced inflammation, hereby reducing overall pain and discomfort. So what’s my point? MASSAGE FOR PAIN WORKS WHEN THE TREATMENT IS WORKED INTO A PROPER PLAN. One and done doesn’t work here folks.
In conclusion, to get the most benefit from pain relief we encourage you to have a team of people whose sole purpose is helping you naturally. In fact many, but not all, of our clients come to us for massage and also see a physical therapist or chiropractor. Yes, many of us actually work along side other medical professionals. It speeds up the the recovery process much quicker overall. Have you ever chosen a workout plan unique to your goal weather losing weight or gaining mass? How long does it take to reach said goal? Think of massage and bodywork for pain and overall relief the same way. Don’t get us wrong, we’d like to be able to wiggle our nose in an I-dream-of-Genie fashion to p**f your pain away in one go, but sadly this is the real world. Things take time. Don’t let the time dictate your decision to act.
