Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) isn’t just widely respected—it’s backed by research.

A January 2025 randomized controlled trial in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that DBT significantly reduced su***de-related events, su***de attempts, and non-suicidal self-injury in adults with borderline personality disorder—performing better than medication-based care alone during treatment.

At New Oakland Family Centers, our DBT Plus Program builds on this evidence with structured skills groups, monthly individual support, phone coaching, and real-life skill application—helping participants build a life worth living.

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on his powerful words: “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

As our communities continue to navigate division, uncertainty, and change, this message carries a renewed sense of urgency. Dr. King’s reminder challenges us to move beyond silence—to show up for one another, to speak out with compassion, and to stand alongside those who need support and understanding.

At New Oakland Family Centers, we are guided by the belief that meaningful change begins when we choose empathy, courage, and action. On this day of reflection and service, we recommit to creating spaces where voices are heard, dignity is honored, and care is never silent.
