Trauma & Therapy Center Of Tennessee, PLLC Adheres By The Following Guiding Treatment Principles:

Problems occur in context. To understand and solve a person's problem, we must understand the situation in which it arises. Without adequate understanding and resources to assist with change, we are bound to repeat what we fail to repair. People are usually doing the best they can with what they have given the situation as they see it. If they are making mistakes, it is because they are stuck and unable to see and/or commit to the process in order to get unstuck. All pain is valid and purposeful and therefore, it needs to be both validated and understood. People need concrete, practical help solving their problems. Validating head nods aren’t generally enough to get someone unstuck. Specific suggestions about how to make changes are often useful. The Therapist/Client relationship is the single most important aspect of therapy as it’s the best the predictor of having desired therapeutic outcomes. All current behaviors and attitudes were once adaptive or helpful…Yes, even the destructive ones.. Trauma-informed therapy is the key to understanding experiences, without becoming flooded, overwhelmed, or re-traumatized when addressing painful events. As trauma-informed therapists, safety is a top priority. We believe our clients need a felt sense of physical and emotional safety in the therapy process before healing can occur. Mission Statement

Trauma & Therapy Center of Tennessee, PLLC is dedicated to the highest quality of trauma-informed care delivered with compassion, authenticity and support ensuring that those affected by trauma, addiction, and mental illness have the opportunity to not only improve their quality of life, but also obtain healing.

Trauma has a way of pulling us into familiar but unhealthy patterns—even when we consciously want something different.

🔁 A daughter of an alcoholic may grow up to marry an alcoholic.
🔁 A son of an emotionally distant mother may be drawn to emotionally distant partners.

This isn’t because we want to relive painful experiences. It’s because our brain is wired to seek the familiar—even when it’s unhealthy.
One of the ways we unconsciously adapt to trauma is through repetition. When we experience overwhelming stress or ongoing trauma, a key part of the brain—the hippocampus—goes offline.

🧠 The hippocampus (the seahorse-shaped part of the brain) is responsible for timestamping memories—helping us recognize that past experiences are over. But when trauma remains unprocessed, those memories stay stuck in "trauma time," making us repeat behaviors in an unconscious effort to “correct” or “master” them.

✨ The good news? Healing can break the cycle. When we process trauma and increase self-awareness, we create space for new, healthier patterns to emerge.

This month, we come together to shine a light on hope, healing, and the importance of connection.

Su***de is not a simple issue—it is complex and deeply influenced by many factors, including trauma. But one truth remains: su***de is preventable. With compassion, evidence-based care, and supportive communities, healing is possible. 🌱

💜 Knowing the warning signs can save lives.
💜 Offering a listening ear can provide strength in dark moments.
💜Creating safe, non-judgmental spaces can help people feel seen and valued.

Every journey is different, and there is no one “right” way to heal. What matters is that support is accessible, individualized, and trauma-informed. Together, we can build resilience, reduce stigma, and remind each other that no one has to walk this path alone.

🕯️ This month, and every month, we honor the lives lost, hold space for survivors, and commit to fostering a world where hope and connection lead the way.

Avoiding pain doesn’t make it go away. It intensifies it.

🚨 Whether through:
Substance use
Unhealthy relationships
Overworking
Over-exercising
Escaping into screens or social media

…avoidance numbs the symptoms but never heals the root cause.

Healing begins when we learn to tolerate emotional discomfort in a healthy way. When we build this skill, we can choose coping strategies that add value to our lives instead of engaging in patterns that ultimately take value away.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost to overdose, to hold space for the families and friends who carry grief, and to honor the resilience of those still struggling.

Addiction is not a moral failing. It is often rooted in unaddressed pain and trauma. When we respond with compassion instead of stigma, we create space for healing, recovery, and hope.

💜 On this day, we stand with survivors, with grieving families, and with communities working to break cycles of pain.
💜 We commit to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting trauma-informed approaches to prevention and recovery.
💜 And we remember: every life lost mattered, and every life still here matters, too.

Together, we can move toward a future where no family has to endure this kind of loss. 🕯️

Trauma creates chronic dysregulation in the nervous system. This often leads to emotional or behavioral reactions that feel intense and out of our control.

Clients often say:
🗣 “Logically, I know I shouldn’t be reacting this way… but I can’t stop.”
That’s because logic alone can’t override trauma. 🧠

🔹 Our logical thinking brain (prefrontal cortex) helps us rationalize.
🔹 Our emotional brain (limbic system) processes fear, memories, and trauma.
🔹 When we’re emotionally triggered, the limbic system takes over, making it nearly impossible to “think” our way out of it.
To truly heal, therapy needs to go beyond just talking. Bottom-up modalities (like EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Processing, and Trauma-Informed Hypnosis) work by addressing trauma at the nervous system level—where it’s stored.

Healing happens when we work with the body and mind together. More soon on how these approaches can rewire the brain! 💡
