After years of planning, praying, building, revising, inspections, and perseverance — we are overjoyed to announce that Clarksville Birth Center is now officially licensed by the State of Tennessee.

This milestone represents countless hours of collaboration, construction, compliance, and commitment to creating a safe, beautiful, fully licensed space for families in our community.

The word for this post is Gratitude.

On April 26th, I supported expecting families by hosting our 5th Annual Community Baby Shower. Immediately after, I rushed to Nashville for the Nurturing the Nurturer: A Tribute To Doulas.

I’m deeply honored and filled with appreciation for the recognition I received from Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and my incredible colleague Frunshana. Being acknowledged for my work as a doula supporting Black and Brown families is not just a personal milestone, it’s a reminder of why this work matters so much.

As a doula, I’ve witnessed the power of advocacy, compassion, and culturally competent care. Every birth, every story, every family I serve fuels my passion to keep showing up, speaking out, and holding space for those who are often overlooked in the maternal health system.

Thank you, Planned Parenthood TN, for uplifting this work and standing in solidarity with birth workers like me. And to Frunshana, your belief in me and the work I do means more than words can express. I am so glad that our paths crossed🫶🏾

This moment reminds me that we are seen, we are valued, and our work is creating real change.

Mind and Body: Both Matter!

May is recognized as Preeclampsia and Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month.

These are two important causes that deeply impact moms and families everywhere.

Preeclampsia is a serious condition that affects 1 in 25 pregnancies in the U.S. and can lead to life threatening complications if not detected early. Warning signs include high blood pressure, severe swelling, headaches, and changes in vision, but many women aren’t aware of the risks.

At the same time, 1 in 5 women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or the first year postpartum. These can include postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, yet stigma and lack of support still prevent many from getting help.

This month, let’s raise our voices, share our stories, and check in on the moms in our lives. Because healthy moms mean healthy families and both mind and body deserve care!
