Clarksville Midwifery and Birth Center Offering midwifery care for growing families with birth center and homebirth options

04/21/2026

After so much work, it still feels a little surreal to say this, but the birth center is officially open. Clarksville Midwifery & Birth Center is so excited to bring the option of birth center birth to Middle Tennessee and South Western Kentucky.

This has been a long process, and every part of it was built with intention. Every room and every detail was created to support birth in a way that feels calm, private, and grounded in trust.

We’re here to support you, and we’re so grateful to be able to offer this option to our community!

Upright positions like standing, squatting, or sitting on a birth ball use gravity to help the baby move down. Movement also shifts the pelvis and supports better alignment. Changing positions regularly can reduce pressure and encourage progress. There is no single position that works best for everyone, but upright movement is often helpful.

Clarksville Midwifery & Birth Center was built with intention. Every room and every detail was created to support birth in a way that feels calm, private, and grounded in trust.

For many families in this region, especially in Western Kentucky and the areas west of Clarksville, midwifery care has not been easy to find. Now that the center is open, we can welcome more people into care that values time, education, and connection.
We are honored to grow with this community and to offer a space where families can feel truly supported through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

The first hour after birth is often called the golden hour. It is a quiet time meant for rest, recovery, and connection. During this period, your baby is placed on your chest, where warmth, smell, and familiar sounds provide comfort. Skin-to-skin contact helps regulate temperature, heart rate, and breathing, while your body begins to recover from the work of labor.

We did it, Clarksville! The birth center is now open, and here is a sneak peek. Opening this has truly been a testament to this community. It wasn’t easy, but we had so much support along the way. We’re so grateful to be able to share it with the same community that helped bring it to life.

Now we’re able to welcome more people into care that values time, education, and connection. We can’t wait to support you here!

After birth, leaving the umbilical cord attached for a few extra minutes allows more blood to flow from the placenta to the baby. This process, called delayed cord clamping, supports healthy iron levels and helps your baby transition smoothly to life outside the womb. The cord is typically clamped once it has stopped pulsing, signaling that the transfer is complete. At Clarksville Midwifery and Birth Center, we practice delayed cord clamping whenever possible, giving your baby the full benefit of that natural exchange before separation.

Water can be a powerful tool in labor. The warmth helps your muscles relax, reduces pressure, and can make contractions easier to manage. Many families describe the birth tub as a place where they can slow down and focus. The buoyancy of water allows for movement and comfort, helping your body stay balanced through each stage.

👩‍⚕️ Is it better to see the same midwife or a small team of midwives throughout pregnancy and labour?

Evidence from 17 studies involving 18,533 randomized women was included in this updated systematic review.

Women or their babies who received midwife continuity of care models (seeing the same midwife or team of midwives) were:

⚕️ Less likely to experience a caesarean section or instrumental birth with forceps or a ventouse suction cup.

⚕️May be less likely to experience an episiotomy (a cut made by a healthcare professional into the perineum and vaginal wall).

⚕️More likely to experience spontaneous vaginal birth.

⚕️Reported more positive experiences during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum.

⚕️Additionally, there were cost savings in the antenatal (care during pregnancy) and intrapartum (care during labour and birth) period.

Further evidence may change our results, and future research should focus on the impact on women with social risk factors and those with medical complications, and understanding the implementation and scaling up of midwife continuity of care models, with emphasis on low‐ and middle‐income countries.

The time after birth is an important part of the process. Holding your baby close helps regulate temperature, steady heart rate, and support early feeding. It’s also when your body begins to rest and recover from birth.
