🧠🍎 Mental Health Starts with the Basics
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, our most basic needs—such as food, safety, and connection—must be met before we can fully focus on emotional growth and healing. When someone is experiencing poor nutrition or social isolation, the brain often remains in “survival mode,” making it more difficult to manage emotions, cope with stress, and maintain overall mental wellness.
The connection between food and mood is powerful. Nourishing our bodies and fostering meaningful connections are not luxuries—they are essential foundations for mental health. When we prioritize our basic needs, we create the stability necessary for healing, resilience, and personal growth. 💙
This summer, the YMCA is helping meet a critical need by providing free meals for children at various locations from May 26 through August 1. Access to nutritious meals supports not only physical health but also emotional well-being, learning, and development. Families are encouraged to take advantage of this valuable community resource.
