We are quietly waiting to see what happens next. Hoping that Congress will agree that NASEM did an outstanding job reviewing the ACD and direct the Department of Defense/Department of War to make ABA services a basic benefit under TRICARE. Thanks for all your advocacy Mission Alpha!!!
It's time to gear up for another advocacy season and continue the fight for quality ABA services for our military children with autism.
We ended 2025 with a big win!
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine release their report on TRICARE's Autism Care Demonstration program. The committee did an outstanding job and we fully support their findings.
The NASEM recommendations:
1)End the ACD program and secure ABA services under the TRICARE basic benefit plans
2)Lift all setting restrictions (aka allow RBTs into the community and school settings)
3)Allow activities of daily living to be targeted in treatment plans. This means that clients can be helped with toileting, dressing skills, and other daily life skills
4)Immediately stop the parent stress assessments and other outcome measures. Allow the ABA providers to conduct outcome measures that are individualized to each client.
Stay tuned for ways that you can help secure ABA services for our military children.
The military family's voice is powerful. Let's get this over the finish line and secure the gold standard therapy for our military children with autism.
