The Sankofa Tribe Holistic wellness coach & community-based birth coach focused on women of African descent.

It's common knowledge that life coaches play a significant role in many people's lives. However, the role of a birth coach, also known as a doula, might be less familiar to some. In this brief video, I want to shed light on the essential work of community-based birth coaches.

Let's begin with some stark statistics. According to the CDC, in 2021, Black women in the United States experienced the highest maternal mortality rate, nearly three times that of White women. This is precisely why community-based birth coaches are invaluable. As your neighbor, confidant, and someone who shares your cultural background, a community-based birth coach is more than a source of knowledge – they are a trusted friend deeply rooted in your community. This connection enables them to provide highly personalized and insightful support.

As a mother, grandmother, therapist, coach, and devoted friend, I've accumulated a wealth of experience that drives me to provide unwavering, family-centered support. Now, in my role as a community-based birth coach (doula), I'm here to empower and guide those embarking on the transformative journey of childbirth.

Although I started this moment of gratitude with Hope's to encourage someone else, I realized that sometimes vocalizing one's gratefulness helps encourage them as well. I oftentimes have to remind myself of where I've been so that I don't lose track of where I am going. Today, I shared out loud, this message is for me just as much it is for anyone interested in listening.

Hey everyone! Today is a wonderful day to share! I usually direct my blog posts to the Queens but today I am hoping to reach anyone who will listen & who is interested in doing their part to change the racist systems in which we (people of African descent) are forced to "accept", especially those who work in the field of mental health. This is an extremely important topic...please read, digest, & share!

I wrote this piece in 2015 when someone questioned my soul(mate) about a Mulsim's ability to learn about love through the Quran when the word is rarely mentioned when compared to the Bible. I listened to my King provide great information on the topic but still felt I needed to go deeper. Coming across this today, I thought it would be a great share. Please read, share, & if you'd like, comment. Thanks! ✊🏽

I was thinking about my next piece when I came across something that I wrote back in 2015. For the month of July, I wanted to share my thoughts on the importance of love, family, and community....

International Women's Day 2021 is here! A day for all women to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, & political achievements of our species. I believe that all of these are reasons for celebration. But I also believe that, we as Black women must gain an understanding of what we are truly celebrating. This day, from its inception, has a different meaning for us, or at least it should. Let's take some time today & reflect on history. My hope is that after you've read this you will have a burning in your soul, an increased desire to be the change we need in ourselves, our families, & our communities. Plz read & share.

I have been thinking about International Women’s Day for about a week now as I tried to prepare for this post. You see, this post is supposed to be a powerful one. One that is sort of a push toward...

This is a long but very interesting & informative post. Black History Month 2021 has taken on a different meaning for me. It's not sitting the same way in my soul as it did in prior years. We are all entitled to our opinion which is why, out of curiosity, I would love to hear the views of others on the topic. Thanks for reading...& if you find the topic interesting enough, please share!

Black History Month 2021, a month of celebration and knowledge sharing, and a time to remember the wonderful contributions and success of African American people throughout US history.
