I just want to take a moment to talk about âfarmhouse dĂ©cor.â You know â the Pinterest boards full of bright white walls, shiplap, and perfectly placed vintage signs that say âFarm Fresh Eggsâ even though the only eggs theyâve ever seen came from Kroger.
Letâs be honest⊠no actual farmhouse looks like that. None.
Real farmhouse dĂ©cor is not âminimalist chic.â Itâs âmaximum chaos.â
Our color palette? Dirt brown, mud gray, and whatever color the goats decided to rub against today. Forget those cute wicker baskets â ours are cracked feed buckets stacked next to the back door âbecause we might need them later.â The âfarmhouse smellâ everyoneâs trying to recreate with candles? Yeah, thatâs eau de barnyard with a hint of wet dog and hay dust.
You know that âfarmhouse entryway benchâ they always show in magazines? Weâve got one too â itâs covered in muddy boots, a pair of coveralls, and probably a half-used roll of vet wrap. Our coffee table centerpiece? A syringe cap, someoneâs gloves, and maybe a jar of screws we found in the laundry.
I saw a post once that said, âA tidy home is a happy home.â
Well, ours must be ecstatic, because itâs too busy to ever be tidy.
We donât decorate with âfarmhouse signs.â We decorate with fly swatters, milk pails, and a collection of random buckets that have all become emotionally significant for some reason.
So yes, I love farmhouse dĂ©cor â I just happen to live in the unfiltered version. Muddy floors, buckets in the kitchen, hay in my hair, and all.
Because thatâs the real âfarmhouse aesthetic.â
