Drjameca Emergence Psychological Services was founded by Dr. Jameca Woody Cooper in Saint Louis Missouri.

Career Highlights: After teaching psychology, Dr. Woody Cooper launched her own psychotherapy practice in 2006. This has allowed her the privileged opportunity to meet and cultivate lifelong relationships with the citizens of Saint Louis, MO. Dr. Woody Cooper received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Tougaloo College in 1996, a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University

of Missouri-Columbia in 1998, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology also from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2002. Dr. Woody Cooper became a psychologist because of a strong desire to analyze and investigate. She wants her patients to believe that it is possible for them to become a smarter, healthier and more enlightened individual at any age.

🧠 What if a witness’s “nervousness” or “lack of eye contact” wasn’t dishonesty - but trauma?

In high-stakes courtrooms, credibility can make or break a case. But for many Black and Brown individuals, racial trauma can alter how they present, often in ways that legal professionals misread.

In my latest article, I break down:

🔍 how racial trauma shows up in witness testimony
⚖️ why traditional measures of credibility often fail traumatized individuals
📚 what attorneys and expert witnesses must understand to ensure fairness and justice

If you're working in any legal or mental health role tied to the justice system, this is required reading.

Toxic Thinking Starts With How You See Yourself

Do you see yourself as someone who's had bad things happen to them, or do you see yourself as someone who's overcome bad things?

That distinction makes all the difference in whether you have toxic thinking or healthy thinking.

And if you have toxic thinking, most likely you see the whole world and all the people in it, through the lens of you have bad things happen to you.
Your mindset is the filter for everything.

💭 Like for Part 2 on how to shift out of toxic thinking.

On the Weekend, I watched my son walk across the stage and into a new chapter of his life and my heart could not be more full.

As a counselling psychologist, I often support others through major transitions. But nothing quite prepared me for the wave of emotion that comes with seeing your child reach a milestone you’ve both dreamed of for years.

This wasn’t just his graduation. It was ours. A family effort. A journey of resilience, encouragement, growth and deep, unconditional love.

To every parent juggling career, caregiving, and personal goals: you’re not alone. Moments like these remind us why we keep going.

💛 Here’s to celebrating the wins, big or small and holding space for both the joy and the tears.

If you’ve recently celebrated a milestone with your family, I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Let’s uplift one another.

4 Tips for Taking Care of You 🌿
In a world that constantly pushes us to do more and be more, don’t forget to take care of yourself.

Here are a few gentle reminders to help you take care of you:

💜 Accept yourself as you are.
You’re running your own race. It’s easy to feel behind when you compare your life to others, but your path is your own. Self-care starts with honoring where you are right now.

💜 Focus on the basics.
Being an adult isn’t always easy — some days, even the smallest tasks feel overwhelming. But caring for yourself doesn’t always mean doing something special. It's in the everyday: showering, nourishing your body, moving, and getting rest.

💜 Find what makes you happy.
If you’ve been in survival mode, you might not even know what brings you joy anymore. What works for others might not work for you. Explore what fills your cup and make space for that.

💜 Practice mindfulness.
Pause. Breathe. Feel. Whether it's a few deep breaths or being present during your morning routine, mindfulness helps you slow down and show up for yourself, even in chaos.

🌿 I have created a self-care club for women of color — a space to rest, reset, and be in community with others who just get it.
