Ava Brownlee, 69, had her left hip replaced at Duke in 2016. Eight years later, when she began to experience the same type of pain in her right hip, she knew just where to turn. Now, following her second hip replacement, Brownlee is back to her exceptionally active life.

Apex, North Carolina is the new home for the NC Children’s Health Campus.
“This location offers the space and access required for a world-class children’s hospital.” – Craig Albanese, M.D., CEO of Duke Health.

NC Children’s is expected to create 8,000 new jobs. The 500-bed hospital will feature specialized and outpatient care, 103 behavioral health beds, and research and education enterprises backed by Duke and UNC.

Jaymes Morra was a toddler when he was diagnosed with CPVT, a rare genetic heart rhythm disorder that can cause sudden cardiac arrest during exercise. In 2023, he underwent an advanced surgery at Duke Health to help prevent dangerous arrhythmias. Today, his CPVT is well-controlled, and Jaymes plays sports with his friends.

North Carolina Children’s has found its home! 🏡 ❤️

Easy to find, easy to get to, right in the middle of the state. Built from the ground up just for kids! North Carolina Children’s, the first independent, freestanding children’s health system in the Carolinas will be built in Apex, North Carolina! This unique partnership between Duke Health and UNC Health will have a 500-bed hospital, 102 behavioral health beds and an ambulatory health center, in a park-like setting designed around the needs of children and families.
