The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office would like to announce that “Special Needs Occupant” Stickers are now available. The sticker immediately alerts first responders that a person inside a home or vehicle may have “unique communication, medical, mobility, or sensory needs.”
For example, the individual may respond erratically or unpredictably to lights, loud noises, or unusual situations. They may have difficulty understanding instructions. The sticker will help first responders approach situations with added awareness, patience, and appropriate accommodations.
The sticker will help Deputies identify people with:
Autism spectrum disorder
Cognitive issues, Dementia, or Alzheimer’s
Sensory sensitivities
Cognitive or developmental differences
Hearing or vision impairments
Mobility challenges
Other special needs that may affect communication or response in emergencies
We ask that the sticker be displayed near the front entrance of the home or on the rear window of vehicles so approaching first responders can easily see it.
Stickers are available for pickup at the Johnston County Sheriff's Office from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday.
