Chronic Lymphedema can sometimes occur after surgical procedures. This young, active and athletic client started to suffer from swelling in his leg following an inguinal hernia repair.

The chronic swelling caused scar tissue to form, starting at the surgical site, working it's way down his leg to his foot. This doesn't happen overnight, but if the fluid continues to be blocked from draining, lymph can become thick, sticky and finally fibrotic (a fancy word for scar tissue). The more fibrosis builds up, the more congested lymph becomes.

Through our unique therapies and his diligence in the daily practice of the self care techniques that we suggest, he has experienced significant improvement in his swelling, circulation and tissue health.

If you have had surgery, please set up post-op Manual Lymphatic Drainage as soon as possible! It's extremely gentle (if done correctly)...and...it's much easier to prevent fibrosis than to treat it! 🩵
