Self care-visual schedules are great ways to teach children skills like washing hands and brushing teeth. Hang them on your bathroom mirror and point to each step as your child completes task. As your child starts to master these skills fade out prompts.

PEC's is a type of Augmentative communication that uses visual symbols to teach the learner to communicate with parents, teachers and peers. The aim is to teach functional communication and allow users to communicate their wants and needs.

It can be hard for children with autism to label emotions in others and themselves. Use these fun summer emotion cards to help build your child's feeling word vocabulary. Children who are able to label their emotions are on their way to becoming emotionally competent and can better express their needs and wants.

Visual Schedules are great tools that an help children of all ages follow routines, transition between activities, and increase independence. Children with autism may have more difficulty coping with unstructured time, visual schedules give them an idea of what they should be doing and when. The predictability of visual schedules can help children remain calm and reduce inappropriate behaviors. My Summer, fall and non-verbal boxes listed on my website all include visual schedules.
