Box breathing, or square breathing, is a powerful, simple relaxation technique that involves inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding again for equal counts of four.

It calms the nervous system, reduces stress, and boosts focus by slowing breathing patterns.

How to Practice Box Breathing

Step 1: Sit upright in a comfortable chair with feet flat on the floor and relax your shoulders.

Step 2: Exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing all air.

Step 3: Inhale slowly through your nose to a slow count of four.

Step 4: Hold your breath for a count of four.

Step 5: Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of four.

Step 6: Hold your breath again for a count of four.

Step 7: Repeat the cycle for several minutes.
