Acetaminophen is an over-the-counter medicine used to reduce fevers and relieve pain. It is sold under many brand names, including Tylenol.

Decades of research have found that acetaminophen is safe for children when administered as recommended. Misleading claims link the medicine to autism. These false claims send a confusing, dangerous message to parents and expectant parents and does a disservice to autistic individuals. Read more at the link below.

Some individuals wrongly assert there is a link between vaccines and autism. Before the claim was discredited, researchers took it seriously, investigated it thoroughly, and found no link. This research, in many countries, involving thousands of individuals, has spanned multiple decades. Any effort to misrepresent sound, strong science poses a threat to the health of children and does a disservice to the autistic community.

Immunizations are important to help children stay healthy, so they can learn, grow and thrive. If parents have questions about vaccines or autism, we encourage them to talk to their child’s pediatrician. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4nI0Rnb

After the governor’s announcement yesterday about ending vaccine mandates, it is unclear at this time what exactly may change about school vaccine requirements. Vaccine requirements are part of Florida Law and are adopted by the Department of Health after consultation with the Department of Eduation. Regardless, Myrtle Avenue Pediatrics will continue to encourage and provide all vaccines that have been proven both safe and effective for our families. Please feel free to call our office with any questions.

The Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics ("FCAAP") believes every family should have access to immunizations to keep their community healthy. Schools are an important part of that community. For many kids, the best part of school is being with friends - sharing space, playing on the playground, and learning together. Close contact makes it easy for contagious diseases to spread quickly. That's why many schools require routine childhood immunizations. When everyone in a school is vaccinated, it is harder for diseases to spread and easier for everyone to continue learning and having fun. When children are sick and miss school caregivers also miss work, which not only impacts those families but also the local economy. We are concerned that today's announcement will put children in Florida public schools at higher risk for getting sick, which will have a ripple effect across our communities.
