As the Holidays are right around the corner, make sure you have yourself and your loved ones covered from head lice issues. We see an increase in head lice cases as more families are bunking together and have longer periods of time spent together during the special season. Therefore, there are opportunities for head lice cases to occur. Although head lice aren’t able to jump, fly, hop, or swim to their next victim, they find their way by crawling. Head lice are spread by direct contact with the hair of an infected person. So how do you protect yourself this Holiday Season? Here are some tips:
If you are spending the night away with family or friends, bring your own pillows.
Make sure no one is sharing combs, brushes, or other hair type accessories, especially kids.
It is also important to not share hats, scarves, or other surfaces which the head lice may be able to crawl to and latch on to their next victim.
If you notice scratching or discomfort from a little one (family member or friend), make sure to look through the hair near a source of bright light, this can help you identify if a possible infestation has occurred. Note that these bugs move very quickly on the scalp and hair.
Being with family, friends, and loved ones during the Holidays is what the season is all about. Even though the kids may be out of school for the Holiday break, head lice can still spread.
