Some thoughts and encouragement for parents in Winston Salem and following a student-involved shooting in our community. While it happened off campus from the school, these are local school students.

There is no right or perfect script for what to say, but here are some things to consider.

Registration is in progress for my next round of groups for parents of anxious.

I teach parents how to help their kids be brave, even when they are scared (parents and kids).

Using an evidence-based approach called SPACE, I help parents understand the anxiety cycle, their role in the cycle (without blame or judgement), and what to do to actually help your child get past their fears.

The concepts learned and applied are skills for life!

DM or email me if you have any questions. Learn more or register at the link in my bio.

The three most popular anxiety themes in kids I’ve been hearing from parents lately are…

1- fear of throwing up

2- separation anxiety

3- social anxiety

This makes sense to me now that school is back in session for most people. To an anxious kid or teen, school can be ripe with opportunities to feel anxious.

If this is you or your kid, you are not alone!

AND…

There is a way through this.

Join me in my upcoming virtual groups for parents of anxious kids where you will learn all about how to help your anxious kid be brave- even if it involves vomit 🤢

Groups are available to anyone, anywhere. What friend do you need to share this with?

GRWM???

Ha! Clearly, I’ve got many skills and tricks to learn.

If I was stuck on being perfect for fear of being judged, I wouldn’t post this!

While I wish it was a better quality, I know done is better than perfect and I’v learned (continue to learn) that I can handle being uncomfortable.

All this to remind you that anxiety does NOT have to be the boss of you or your kids. Registration for my parenting groups (for parents of anxious kids) is open.

You can learn how to support your anxious child and respond in ways that lead to meaningful and lasting change for your child and your family.

The group is open to residents of ALL states or around the world!

Did Morticia and Gomez join my BRAVE Together parenting group?

No, but this scene is a greta representation for how to respond to our kid’s anxiety and pushback.

In my 6 week BRAVE Together parent groups we learn how to stop engaging in unhelpful accommodations and provide support that truly helps!

Registration is open until 9/2. Link in bio. Let me know if you have any questions!

I’m an anxiety therapist and here is a peak inside my own anxious experience.

I led a webinar last night and my body went into the panic state of acting like I was about to die and needed to run for my life.

With LOTS of practice, motivation, and willingness to be uncomfortable, I have learned to tolerate it.

Do I wish it didn’t happen? Of course!

But it does.

What activities send your body into a state of panic?
