I have been working in pediatrics for over 21 years and as a Nurse Practitioner for over 15 years. I have a wide range of experience culminating from a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery to after-hours urgent care to the Pediatric ED at Brenners' Children Hospital. In all these places, I learned that the one of the most important aspects of healthcare is servicing families with dignity and providing accessibility to quality care. In May 2023, I made a decision to follow my heart and walk in my true purpose of bringing accessibility to quality care to the community. I believe that healthcare should be available convenient to families regardless of transportation, work schedules, income or location. Purposeful Pediatrics, PLLC is here to serve children ages 6 months to 17 years of age. At this time, we will manage acute illnesses and provide also sports physicals at the convenience of your home.

šŸ©ŗ Health Tip Tuesday | Honoring a Legacy of Access

Here in Winston-Salem, members of the Black Panther Party recognized that the African American community was not receiving timely emergency care ā€” and they took action.

They returned to school, earned their EMT certifications, and launched the first ambulance service locally dedicated to serving Black residents who were being overlooked.

That is what community-centered healthcare looks like.

Because of trailblazers like them, practices like Purposeful Pediatrics can continue the mission of bringing accessible, compassionate care directly into neighborhoods that need it most.

If youā€™re always available, always fixing, always carrying it all ā€” people will get comfortable with your exhaustion.

Meanwhile, when you need helpā€¦ where are they?

Being everything to everyone will cost you your peace.

Let them lose access.
Not from anger, but as self-respect.

You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to prioritize you.

Because access to you is a privilege ā€” not a requirement.

In 1893, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams made history by performing one of the first successful open-heart surgeries, repairing a wound to the pericardium, the sac surrounding the heartā€”without modern technology.

Sometimes the pressure we feel isnā€™t coming from our kids, our work, or even our responsibilities ā€” itā€™s coming from the expectations we quietly place on ourselves.

This season has been a little heavy over here.

Between helping my son navigate his ankle recovery, making sure Purposeful Pediatrics continues to grow and serve well, and keeping life moving at home ā€” I realized something importantā€¦

I was creating pressure that no one asked me to carry.

Trying to be everywhere.
Fix everything.
Handle everything perfectly.

But peace isnā€™t found in perfection ā€” itā€™s found in permission.

Permission to slow down.
Permission to prioritize what matters most.
Permission to give ourselves grace while we juggle parenting, work, and life.

If youā€™re in a season where it feels like everything needs you at the same time, take a breath today.

You donā€™t have to carry unnecessary weight just to prove you care.

You can be present, purposeful, and still protect your peace.

Life doesnā€™t always explain itself before it stretches youšŸ˜³
Sometimes clarity comes after the relationship changes,
after the opportunity ends,
after the season closes,
after things donā€™t turn out the way you planned.

Loss or transition has a way of teaching what comfort never could. It sharpens priorities, deepens compassion, and reveals what truly matters.

If youā€™re in a season of confusion, grief, or transitionā€”donā€™t rush to label it as failure. There may be wisdom forming right where it hurts.
