Dental Integration Patient sent me this picture earlier today and just about made my day with her great news. When you experience chronic pain, all the rules are thrown out the window and even the best intentioned approaches may not be appropriate for you. This was the case for Melissa, who is a fellow seasoned Physical Therapist, recovering from her initial injury four years ago. She had taken numerous PRI courses and seen many Clinicians before working with me about a year ago. She had even taken the Gait & Grounding course by AIA but was not responding to the basic movement prescriptions of both approaches of AIA and PRI. It was a combination of a Collaboration with to apply an ALF appliance and more customized regression of AIA movement principles that finally made a significant change for her system to be able to tolerate walking ~1.25 miles at a ~16.29 mile pace (~3.5-3.7 mph) within about 21 minutes. For context, she would flare up with unloaded table exercises in the beginning 😲🤔
For chronic pain cases, it does not help to fit a square peg into a round hole. I find Compassion and Empathy as guides and Listening to what the Patient and their Body is telling you what they need at each moment significantly improves clinical outcomes. Every Assessment is a Treatment and every Treatment is an Assessment.
