Independent play is when a child plays on their own without adults interfering. It is free, unstructured open-ended play.
For children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, playing independently can be challenging due to limited social and communication skills and repetitive behaviors that restrict a child’s ability to play creatively.
Independent play skills help to shape a number of very important developmental skills like visual discrimination, problem solving, eye-hand coordination, imagination and creativity, organization skills, and can help a child learn to stay on task.
Independent play skills also help to reduce some self-stimulatory behaviors and negative behaviors that sometimes are caused by boredom.
Appropriate play skills are another important skill that we teach early learners at New Foundations ABA Therapy.

✨ Assessments & Treatment Plans ✨
The foundation for quality ABA therapy
Assessments and individualized treatment plans are the cornerstone for quality ABA treatment. We take the time to conduct functional behavior assessments to help you understand why problem behaviors keep happening. The results of well-conducted behavior assessments provide the foundation we need to develop behavior intervention plans that will decrease interfering behaviors and teach more socially acceptable and positive behaviors using the principles of applied behavior analysis..
📊 Functional Behavior Assessments often include:
Parent Interviews & Questionnaires
Review of child records
Direct Observations
Functional analyses
✏️ Learning and language assessments help us identify your child's strengths and deficits across developmental domains. Some of the most common areas assessed are: expressive (vocal) and receptive (listener) communication & language, pre-academic skills, social & group skills, play skills, self-care, and others. The results of learning and language assessments help us develop treatment goals and design individualized instructional programs based on principles of ABA that will help your child learn and acquire the skills they need to be successful.
Autism is a developmental disorder that can be difficult to live with. However, with the right treatment and management, an autistic person can live a full life.

Not sure how to handle your child's challenging behaviors? We can help.
A core principle in applied behavior analysis is that every behavior serves purpose. When your child is having a meltdown or engaging in other challenging behaviors, it is likely because they are trying to:
to get a preferred toy or activity
end or avoid non-preferred situations
get your attention
get sensory stimulation
In ABA, our goal as behavior analysts is to analyze the environmental contexts under which behaviors occur so that we can find out exactly why, where, and with who they are happening!
Behavior Analysts do this through functional behavior assessments where we analyze different variables in your child's environment. Once we understand why your child's behaviors are happening, we are then able to develop a treatment plan to decrease these behaviors and teach more appropriate and functional behaviors.

New Foundations ABA Therapy is different from other autism therapy service providers. We specialize in intensive 1:1 (one-to-one) therapy, grounded in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our therapy team and programs are built around the specific needs of your child. Our teaching methods are based on the science of behavior and are quantifiable and measurable.
Our approach to therapy has several advantages:
We are able to quickly target the most important social, learning, and behavioral skills that are relevant to your child's particular circumstances.
Intensive, 1:1 therapy that is customized to your child's needs offers the greatest potential to impact the acquisition of skills and management of behaviors.
ABA therapy is the gold standard of autism therapy and provides a scientifically proven framework for building the critical skills needed for social awareness and learning.
By providing therapy services across multiple environments (home, school, etc.), we are able to generalize the child's understanding of skills, which leads to better long-term outcomes.
Our data-driven analysis allows us to measure changes in learning and behavior, enabling us to identify skills that are mastered and areas that need improvement.
