❤️Menopause and Heart Health: What Every Woman Should Know.
As we navigate through different stages of life, it’s crucial to understand how menopause can impact our heart health. At Southlake OB/GYN, we’re here to empower you with knowledge about cardiovascular risks associated with menopause.

Here are some key factors to consider:

1️⃣ Age Matters:If you reach menopause before age 45, your risk for coronary heart disease significantly increases due to plaque buildup in your arteries.

2️⃣ Type of Menopause: Surgical removal of both ovaries at a young age can elevate your risk for cardiovascular disease, while the same surgery closer to natural menopause doesn’t have the same effect.

3️⃣ Estrogen Levels: As menopause approaches, estrogen levels decline. This hormone helps keep your blood vessels healthy, so lower levels can lead to increased cholesterol buildup on artery walls—heightening your risk for heart disease and stroke.

4️⃣ Common Symptoms: Hot flashes and night sweats may last up to 10 years, and they’re linked to poorer cardiovascular health. 🌡️

5️⃣ Mental Health Matters:Depression and trouble sleeping have been associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support if you’re struggling! 🤗

6️⃣ Visceral Fat: The accumulation of fat around vital organs during menopause can raise your cardiovascular disease and cancer risk, so staying active is more important than ever! 🏃‍♀️

7️⃣ Cholesterol & Metabolic Syndrome: Be aware that cholesterol levels can shift along with other risk factors like high blood pressure and blood sugar, which together form metabolic syndrome.

Your Action Plan: It’s essential to discuss your personal risk factors with your healthcare team, along with strategies for preventing cardiovascular disease before, during, and after menopause. ❤️

Let’s take charge of our heart health together!

Awareness moment -

❤️Infant Congenital Heart Disease❤️

Did you know that congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of birth defect? Here are some important facts to keep in mind:

🔹 1 in 100 infants is impacted by CHD.
🔹 25% of these conditions may require surgery or a procedure within the baby’s first year of life.
🔹 Over 90% of children with CHD go on to live into adulthood.
🔹 Approximately 3 million children and adults are currently living with congenital heart disease.

Common types of CHDs include:
✅ Bicuspid aortic valve
✅ Ventricular septal defects
✅ Atrial septal defects

At South Lake OB/GYN, we want to raise awareness and ensure that every parent is informed about the signs and support available for their little ones. Together, we can advocate for healthier futures!
