Have you had trouble understanding the recommendations around alcohol and breastfeeding?
Alcohol passes freely into milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when drunk with food. But what does that mean? This does not mean that your milk has as much alcohol as an alcoholic beverage. It does mean that your breastmilk has as much alcohol as your blood after an alcoholic beverage. For instance, a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.10 (0.10% or one tenth of one percent) means that there is 0.10% alcohol content in your milk. You can compare that to the typical glass of wine which is 11-13% alcohol content or liquor which is 28-60% alcohol content.
Check this link for more evidence-based information about alcohol and breastfeeding here: https://lllusa.org/breastfeeding-and-alcohol/

[Image: Photo of a glass cocktail. Text: Thinking of drinking alcohol while nursing? Alcohol is present in breastmilk at the same levels as it is present in the nursing parent's blood. As alcohol leaves the bloodstream, it also leaves breastmilk, so there is rarely a need to pump and dump.]

Instead of running from this intensity, let's embrace it with unwavering strength and determination. Let's fully acknowledge the incredible strength of our bodies and minds during this sacred journey. 💫

Every contraction, every surge, every moment during labor has a purpose. It's a testament to our resilience as women. It paints a vivid story of our ability to overcome challenges and bring forth life itself. 🌺

❤️ Let's flip the narrative and celebrate the intensity of labor. Let's surrender ourselves to the waves and trust the process. Because on the other side, our strength and courage will be immeasurable,

"Not a “beautiful” photo but it perfectly captures postpartum recovery with two under two.

Holding a newborn while trying to entertain a toddler while recovering from giving birth is not easy. Postpartum recovery has been so much harder this time around and it makes me so upset maternal/postpartum care in this country is such an afterthought. Mothers are life givers and should be celebrated. Instead, we are kicked out of hospitals 48 hours after giving birth - a traumatic event in itself - and expected to fend for ourselves. After birth, we take our babies to pediatrician appointments to get checked in 24-48 hours after hospital discharge and then in another 2 weeks. The first time I will see a doctor for my care is in 6 weeks and then no follow up after that. If you work, your leave is likely 12 weeks (3 months) which is barely enough time to recover physically. I won’t even detail the mental or emotional aspects of how uncaring this is for mothers.

God forbid you’re a single parent with no family, I don’t know how you’d do it.

Mothers, we are amazing. We grew a new organ in our bodies, then a human being, and gave life."

Happy Father’s Day to all the Tambourine fathers, you witnessed the amazing journey of pregnancy and birth, and now your life will never be the same…in a good way!! 😊💓

“This dad had been emotional from the moment the midwife told his partner it was time to push. He supported her through every second of her painful labor — and two epidurals. There was so much anticipation and lead-up to this moment that when the time came, his emotions utterly overwhelmed him i...

✨Moxibustion✨

Have you heard of Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves burning a moxa stick (roll of dried Mugwort) near the acupuncture point on the pinky toes of both feet, to encourage a baby in the breech position to turn head-down before birth. This is thought to be achieved with heat stimulating movement and activity in the baby.

Evidence suggests that moxibustion, when used along with acupuncture techniques or postural techniques is safe and can increase the chances of baby turning, however it is unclear which kind of moxibustion method (appropriate timing, frequency, and duration of the treatment) works most effectively for turning breech babies.

Moxibustion is generally considered safe when performed by trained professionals and in collaboration with health care providers. However, there are some precautions and contraindications to be aware of, such as certain medical conditions (placenta previa, multiple pregnancy, history of premature labour or premature rupture of membranes, oligohydramnios and a few other conditions) where moxibustion may not be suitable. It's crucial to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider to determine if moxibustion is a suitable option for you.
