Last month, speakers from the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking presented at Stella. Staff learned that victims do not always self-identify as such—and in many cases, they may not even recognize that what they are experiencing is considered trafficking. Traffickers often use drugs as a means of control and manipulation.Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, and coercion and extends far beyond the commercial s*x industry—including es**rt services, brothels, massage parlors, strip clubs, and street prostitution. It is also prevalent in many other settings, such as restaurants, hotels, factories, farms, landscaping companies, nail salons, construction sites, and private homes where individuals are exploited as domestic workers.
