Our Mission
The American Sickle Cell Anemia Association (ASCAA) was incorporated in 1971 as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. The mission of this organization is to provide comprehensive education, testing, counseling and supportive services to the population at risk for sickle cell anemia and its variants. Further, its intent is to ensure quality and quantitative care in the provision of the comprehensive service to affected individuals and families. Annually, ASCAA provides education, counseling, testing, supportive services to more than 15'000 individuals in Region V (Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina counties).
There are multiple ways in which ASCAA reaches out to the communities, such as health fairs, resource fairs and an online educational videos called Sickle Talk©. ASCAA also has several social media platforms, such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
