Hanson Services loves to support our local community. Office staff volunteer delivering community meals every week and watering city flower boxes for Keeping Lakewood Beautiful. We’ve been involved in the local Rotary Clubs for many years and staff regularly help out the Rotary Club of Cleveland at the St. Augustine Community Cupboard. Sunday was Best Friends Day! We hope everyone out there enjoys the company of one or two really good friends. Especially for people who don’t have family, or close family, friends can be the most important people in your life.
In the world of home care, we sometimes have clients who don’t have any family. And because they’re usually older, they may have lost their best friends. While it’s always important to have professional boundaries between a caregiver and a client, sometimes our caregivers become the closest thing to family some clients have. We recognize and cherish our responsibility in those cases. We’re there for you no matter what the need: being a helper, a driver, or when needed, just a friend.

Learning about others! In June (this year) there are a couple of important observances for Muslims. This week millions of Muslims will make the pilgrimage known at The Hajj, traveling to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. All Muslims who are fit and able to travel must make this journey at least once in their lives. During the Hajj the pilgrims perform acts of worship and renew their faith and sense of purpose in the world.
Muslims also celebrate Eid al-Adha on the last day of the Hajj. Eid usually starts with Muslims going to the Mosque for prayers. They dress in their best clothes and thank Allah for all the blessings they have received. It is a time when they visit family and friends. Muslims will also give money to charity so that poor people can celebrate too.
Extreme heat being experienced in Saudi Arabia now makes the Hajj especially difficult. A wish for those making the journey would be: Hajj Mubarak! May Allah make your Hajj easy, your journey safe, and your reward immense.

Service highlight! Hanson Services' caregivers can help make sure your loved one is getting nutritious meals. We can do the shopping and meal preparation or just lend a hand while clients do their own cooking. We can help make sure someone is following a special diet, just let us know. Making a favorite old family recipe together can be a fun and meaningful experience. Give us your recipe and we'll make it happen!

Saturday is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. Phobia is defined as an irrational fear or aversion to something. Sometimes we fear what we don't understand. On Saturday we wish for people of all genders and sexuality to be better understood and accepted as they are. And if you don't understand, please learn, before fear turns to hate.
