Hello friends of Aitaneet,

We hope you and your families are doing well during this time.
We are following up with you in regards to a letter that was mailed out about the merger of the Aitaneet Brotherhood Association (ABA) and the Aitaneet Foundation (AF). The original ABA mission and activities have diminished in recent years and effectively been replaced by AF efforts. As such, it no longer justifies ongoing administrative costs and efforts of maintaining two separate legal entities with two separate Board of trustees. As a result, the ABA Board unanimously passed a measure to effectively merge the ABA (a social membership) into the AF (a tax deductible 501c3 organization).Board members from the ABA have been extended an open invitation to join the board members of the AF, and are expected to do so. We continue to welcome new volunteer Board member nominees for consideration. Please contact any current board member for information on how to get involved in this charitable organization.

To keep everyone safe by not congregating in person, we will have a virtual online meeting, open to all interested members to ask questions regarding the planned merger.

Details of the virtual online meeting:
November 22, 2020 at 3:00
The virtual meeting will be conducted using Google Meet by following this link: https://meet.google.com/xmb-ebkz-xme

Please send a direct message with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your feedback.

Gratefully,
ABA and AF Board Members

A letter from the Assad Abood Foundation in Aitanit:
As all of you are aware, these are very difficult times for the people in Lebanon, as well as in America and every country across the globe. The government of Lebanon is in turmoil, and its economy is the worst it has been in many decades. In addition, due to the high unemployment rate in Lebanon, many families in the villages are struggling to afford the tuition of the schools operated by religious orders. Consequently, enrollment in said schools has dropped a great deal, threatening to close them.
In an attempt to keep the Assad Abood mission alive, the Antonine nuns decided to downsize the school by terminating the 7th,8th, and 9th grades in Aitanit. They informed the teachers about their decision on June 30, 2020. As expected, the village was devastated by this news. They rang church bells throughout the day in mourning. The village was brimming with signs, celebrating Assad Abood’s legacy and generosity.

The Assad Abood Foundation wired on average $90,000 per year since 2014 to close the school deficit and continue educating the children of Aitanit free of charge. The Foundation will continue paying all tuition, fees, and transportation for the children of Aitanit who attend the schools in other villages. Despite these unfortunate and unexpected times, the Foundation remains committed to promoting worthwhile humanitarian and economic recovery projects in the village.

In order to recover grades 7,8, and 9 for the 2020-21 school year, we need to raise about $60,000. We ask for your support in this critical time. All checks can be mailed to the address below and made out to The Cleveland Foundation subject line Assad Abood Foundation Inc. 100% of money raised will be wired to one bank account in Lebanon managed by the nuns and used to pay teachers salaries and school bills.

The Assad Abood School is the last hope for maintaining the religious diversity necessary for children to thrive. The school is not only a major employer for the area, but a place where Christian and Muslim students sit next to each other in the same classroom, learn invaluable morals and ethics, and create friendships that will last a lifetime. The Assad Abood School is a uniting factor, a place where different walks of life encounter one another, exposing children to the importance of meeting new people with different experiences, backgrounds, and upbringings.

I thank you for your continued support of the school. Thank you for your generous donations, for your prayers, for sponsoring fundraising events, and for volunteering your time to teach summer camps in Aitanit.

The Aitanit and Cleveland community lost a very special and kind young man, Samir Elnahass. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Christina, children Marina and Henry, mother Alvira, siblings Takla, Nadia, and Assaad, and all of his family and friends. May his legacy remain eternally in their hearts. It was only months ago that he celebrated with other former students of the Assad Abood School. May his smile live on through his wife and children. God bless the Elnahass, Abdallah, and Hamway families, Ψ§Ω„Ω„Ω‡ ΩŠΨ±ΨΩ…Ωˆ πŸ™πŸΌ

She leaves behind her dear children and their spouses: Colette (Manuel) Nemer, Dr. Waleed (Hala) Nemer, Aida (Habib) Loutfi, Maggie (Dr. Nazih) Daher, Dr. Rasheed (Yolla) Nemer.
