Clients now have access to an attorney to represent them with legal problems in the areas of social security and Medicare/Medicaid benefits and appeals, HIV/AIDS discrimination advocacy, landlord-tenant law, and administrative legal matters such as a name change. rafted. For cases outside the scope of the services offered at NLURC, the legal staff will find a volunteer attorney to take a client’s case on a pro bono basis. Additionally, NLURC hosts quarterly Know-Your-Rights one-day legal clinics open to the entire community. At these one-day clinics, individuals can meet with an attorney to understand their legal issue, how it might be resolved, and possibly find an attorney to represent that individual. Each clinic focuses on a different area of law such as driver’s license reinstatement, family matters, or expungements. Currently, the NLURC legal clinic is working on surveying the broader HIV/AIDS population in Cuyahoga County. This survey will help NLURC understand the broader legal needs of the population. NLURC will use this information to decide the direction of the legal clinic in the near future as it grows.
