American Ladder Institute

American Ladder Institute The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to promoting safe ladder use.

The ALI is comprised of members from the US and Canada who are ladder manufacturers and manufacturers of ladder components. ALI is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved developer of ladder safety Standards. Standards are technical specifications, developed and tested by subject experts, which prescribe rules governing the safety construction, design, testing, care and use of various types of ladders. ALI was founded in 1947 and has evolved to fit the needs of the membership as the industry has changed. Construction materials and processes have developed according to changes in usage, duty ratings and industry need.

🍂 Fall is Here! Stay Safe on Ladders 🍂

Cooler weather means more outdoor chores — hanging decorations, cleaning gutters, and pruning trees. Before you climb, remember these ladder safety tips:

âś… Inspect your ladder for damage before use
âś… Set it on a firm, level surface
âś… Keep three points of contact while climbing
✅ Don’t overreach — move the ladder instead
âś… Wear slip-resistant shoes

A few small precautions can prevent big injuries.

The top step and top cap of a stepladder are not designed for standing or sitting. Using either of them can throw you off balance and increase your risk of falling.
