BMMA is deeply saddened by the passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. As a champion for Black Maternal Health, Congresswoman Jackson Lee was a vital member of the Black Maternal Health Caucus and a fierce advocate for the inclusion of maternal and infant health funding as part of state and federal Healthy Start initiatives.

Rep. Jackson Lee’s dedication and commitment to improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes for Black women and families will forever be remembered and cherished. Our hearts go out to her loved ones during this difficult time.

Rest in power, Congresswoman Jackson Lee. Your legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in the fight for equitable maternal health care for Black women and birthing people everywhere and for generations to come.
