FrontLine Service

FrontLine Service Since its inception in 1988, FrontLine Service, formerly MHS, has been in the forefront of providing services to our community's most vulnerable individuals.

A non-profit, behavioral health agency, FrontLine Service operates the largest continuum of services to homeless individuals in the state of Ohio, providing shelter, transitional, and permanent housing services. FrontLine Service is proud to collaborate with community partners in the expansion of Housing First programs in Cuyahoga County, and most recently, rapid-rehousing and diversion efforts. F

rontLine Service operates the Suicide Hotline and the Adult and Child Psychiatric Mobile Crisis team, providing services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Outreach efforts to individuals experiencing trauma include the Children Who Witness Violence program and the Traumatic Loss Response team. FrontLine Service is a contract agency of the The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County and a United Way Agency.

April is Counseling Awareness Month! This month, we celebrate and honor the work of the counseling profession and the individuals who help people of all backgrounds find solutions and overcome the obstacles that they face with kindness and compassion.

FrontLine’s licensed professional counselors are key to our many programs, including staffing the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, providing therapy to children who have faced a devastating loss, staffing our Care Response and Police Co-response teams, and much more. As the first in line to respond to mental health crises throughout Cuyahoga County, FrontLine’s counselors are vital to keeping our community safe and healthy. Take a moment to thank a counselor today!

A big thank you to SeibertKeck Insurance Partners for their generous donation of Easter baskets to FrontLine Service. These baskets will be distributed to the children in our trauma program, where we provide practical and therapeutic support to children and families who have experienced or witnessed abuse, su***de, homicide, or the sudden loss of a loved one. We are grateful for this opportunity to bring a bit of joy to the lives of these children with this generous gift.

We are now accepting referrals and enrollment to our new RESET substance use program. RESET is designed to help someone take meaningful steps towards recovery – at their own pace.

RESET stands for Recovery, Empowerment, Support, Education, and Transformation. Our program provides a structured, supportive environment where individuals can explore their relationship with substance use and build skills for lasting change. We offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a non-IOP recovery group. For more details, click here: https://www.frontlineservice.org/substance-use-services

FrontLine staff and board were proud to represent a table at The City Club of Cleveland's "We Can End Unsheltered Homelessness Today" forum last Friday. This forum featured Chris Knestrick, Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH), who shared his personal story of how he came to be involved in the work of homelessness and our community’s role in the work of homelessness.

“Housing justice will not arrive because someone gives it to us. It comes because ordinary people decide that their neighbors, all of us, especially in our greatest time of need, deserve a home. Housing justice will come when we get organized and when we refuse to stop until it becomes a reality.” – Chris Knestrick.

Our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program got a little shoutout during this forum, highlighting FrontLine’s role in supporting veterans experiencing homelessness in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Ashtabula Counties. We recently celebrated some significant work anniversary milestones and are so thankful for their time, skills, and dedication to our clients. We are excited to share that our Care Response program, a health-first alternative to emergency responses for mental health and addiction crises, has expanded to serve all of Cuyahoga County. Care Response sends a team consisting of a licensed mental health professional and a peer support specialist (an individual with lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction who is living in recovery) to respond to non-violent mental health and substance use crises. They arrive in a clearly marked vehicle, do not use sirens or flashing lights, and are unarmed.

This countywide expansion follows a successful pilot project in two Cleveland zip codes, launched in partnership with the (Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services) ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County.

Care Response is available every day from 8AM – 11:30PM across Cuyahoga County. You can access Care Response by dialing 988. Pictured here are the FrontLine staff who are part of the Care Response team.
