When it comes to how often you should shower, once a day is typically fine. But skipping a day isn’t bad at times – and neither is doubling up if you need extra scrubbing. We’ll break it all down in this podcast with dermatologist Shilpi Khetarpal.

Aging is a process that causes our bodies to decline. It happens for many reasons, including cell senescence, environmental damage, faulty proteins, gene changes and a decrease in your body’s ability to repair itself. Tissue loss, reduced blood flow, hormone changes and inflammation can affect every part of your body as you age.

Most of us don’t think about aging in terms of what’s happening in our cells. We think of the aging experience: the lines in your skin that record a life’s worth of emotions. The increasing streaks of gray that paint your hair. Aches and pains that you never had before. The realization that you don’t get most pop culture references anymore.

No one is immortal. But there are ways you can reduce aging’s impact on your life.

Christine Dash-Novak and Tim Davis never imagined they’d get married inside a hospital. Instead of a courthouse ceremony, their wedding became a meaningful moment in the Emergency Department.

On their wedding day earlier this year, Tim experienced severe kidney pain. Christine and Tim rerouted their plans and headed to Medina Hospital — the very place they first met eight years ago.

Christine, a patient care nurse assistant in orthopaedics, was caring for one of Tim’s loved ones when he struck up a conversation. Two days later, Tim called her, and what started as a coffee date turned into a long walk in the park, and eventually, a life together. Christine has worked at Medina Hospital for 25 years. She knows the ED team well.

So, when Tim mentioned he was supposed to be getting married that day, nurse Erin Kaminski, called over to nurse Jody Thomas. Together, they knew exactly what needed to happen.

In four hours, caregivers transformed a hospital room into a wedding space. They gathered flowers, decorations, lights, cake, and sparkling cider. A local wedding shop owner even donated a veil, thanks to a connection with a fellow caregiver.

Nurse Tim Phillips was getting his daughter ready that morning when he was asked to officiate. “As a pastor and as a caregiver, I come to the hospital each day to help others,” he says. “That day, Tim and Christine didn’t need medical care, they needed cared for in a different way.”

Even on her day off, Michelle Shaw, a photographer and one of our health unit coordinators, came in to capture the moment. Nearly 30 caregivers stopped by to congratulate the couple who officially became husband and wife on January 23, 2026. When there was no getaway car, the team decorated Tim’s hospital bed with empty ginger ale cans.

Months earlier, Tim had been flown by helicopter to Fairview Hospital, where doctors discovered kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs. Through it all, Christine and Tim have stayed grounded in their life together, on their rural hobby farm, surrounded by animals, family, and love.

“It wasn’t the day we planned,” Christine says. “But my colleagues refused to let hardship overshadow our joy. It was beautiful.”

Gray hair is a part of aging. As you get older, the cells that give your hair its color lose their pigment. This makes your hair look gray, white or silver. Genetic conditions, vitamin deficiencies and medications also sometimes cause gray or white hair.

You can’t stop your hair from going gray as you age. If you have a vitamin deficiency or other conditions causing gray hair, you may be able to stop or slow down the graying by treating the condition.
