Founded in 1964, Donald Martens and Sons Ambulance Service, Inc. is one of the oldest, private, family owned ambulance services in the state of Ohio. Over the years, we have grown from one ambulance to over 85 mobile intensive care units, ambulances and ambulettes. During these years of growth, we never lost sight of our original values and traditions in providing first-class patient care, quality customer service, and keeping up-to-date on all equipment and technologies. Our commitment to service excellence goes beyond the exteriors. We recognize that we really have two customers – the patient and their family members – and that the emotional trauma to the family members often hurts as much as the physical trauma of the patient. Consequently, we believe that real customer service begins with the need for transportation and ends only after we’ve treated all of our clients as if they were our own family. It is this dedication to family and traditions which make Donald Martens and Sons more than just an ambulance service. Instead, we like to think of ourselves as a community service.

We are heartbroken by the loss of Lieutenant Paul Mickolick.

Paul was more than a partner in care—he was family. For years, he served alongside us with unwavering dedication, compassion, and courage. Whether responding to emergencies or supporting a teammate, Paul brought a steady hand and a kind heart to every call. He made people feel seen, safe, and supported—whether they were patients, coworkers, or strangers in need.

We join the Town and Country Fire District, Cleveland Clinic, and the broader EMS and fire communities in mourning this profound loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to serve with him. His legacy will live on in the lives he saved and the hearts he touched.

Ohio kid. Baseball catcher since preschool⚾️ EMT registry passed before his 18th birthday. Diagnosed with type‑1 at six, Matt watched two calm medics flip panic into hope; now he’s doing the same on Martens rigs and eyeing his medic patch at Cleveland Fire. When he’s not grinding 12‑hour shifts, he’s lifting, landing BMX jumps, or demolishing catfish and co****le boards with teammates like Brian Flanagan.

She’s the kind of person who will hold your hand before a scary appointment, talk with you like an old friend, and still somehow have enough energy to go camping every other weekend. 🌲💁‍♀️

From retail to EMS, Becky didn’t just find her calling—she teleported to it (her dream superpower, btw 🌀). Whether she’s watching Friends for the 101st time or making sure you feel safe in the back of her rig, she’s got this amazing way of making people feel seen and taken care of.
