Today, we said goodbye to our team member and friend, Heather.

For over two years, Heather was an essential part of our doula team—a true team player who approached her work with unwavering dedication and profound love.

She had a special gift for families, especially during those tender, early weeks. She was our go-to for twins, always bringing a calm competence to the most challenging situations.

What many may not have known was that Heather was battling cancer throughout her entire career with us. Yet, she protected our families from her struggle, keeping her fight quiet and private so she could focus entirely on theirs. She exemplified what it means to be truly dedicated to this work, sharing her love and light until the very end.

Heather, your commitment to our clients and the doula community was a constant source of inspiration. You lived out the mission of this work every single day, and your spirit will live on in the countless families you helped guide and the teammates you inspired.

Thank you, Heather, for loving our clients. You will be missed tremendously.

✨ Remembering Our Dear Heather✨

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved team member, Heather. After a long and incredibly courageous battle with cancer, Heather passed away peacefully.

The entire Nurtured Foundation family is grieving this loss. Heather was more than just a colleague; she was an extraordinary person whose warmth, dedication, and spirit touched everyone she met.

Heather was an amazing certified postpartum doula, a true calling that reflected her deep commitment to nurturing and supporting families. Her bio perfectly captured her heart:

"Growing up, I babysat for friends and family. I tried different jobs over the years but found child care kept calling me back, and I found myself as a career nanny of 8 years. Once I learned what a doula was, I felt that is exactly what I’d like to do and quickly became certified. Helping families through one of life's most beautiful and biggest transitions is what I love to do."

Heather helped countless families navigate the beautiful, complex transition into parenthood, whether they were welcoming singletons or multiple sets of twins. Her passion, knowledge, and gentle presence made her a light for every family she served.

Beyond her professional achievements, Heather was a cherished friend, daughter, sister, and aunt. The team will deeply miss her unwavering optimism and the genuine care she showed for her team.

We send our deepest condolences to Heather’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, dear Heather. Your beautiful spirit will live on in the memories of the lives you touched and the families you helped bring into the world.

Two more infants have been hospitalized amid an outbreak of botulism, a type of severe illness caused by botulinum toxin, federal health officials say.

As of Monday, at least 15 infants have been reported to have "suspected or confirmed" cases of infant botulism across 12 states, the Food and Drug Administration said in an advisory published Tuesday.

The infants who fell ill were all fed ByHeart Whole Nutrition powdered infant formula, the FDA said. According to the advisory, no deaths have been reported to date.

Surviving Sleep Deprivation

Let's talk about that new parent exhaustion. 😴 It's real, and it's tough. But remember: sleep is not a luxury, it's a necessity.

💤 Sleep when the baby sleeps: We know, you hear it all the time, but even a 20-minute nap can make a huge difference in your mood and energy.

💤 Prioritize rest over chores: The laundry can wait. Your mental and physical health can't.

💤 Ask for help: Let your partner, a family member, or a friend take over for a bit so you can catch up on some Zzz's. It takes a village!

You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself! ☕

✨ Helping Little Ones Adjust to Daylight Saving Time ✨

The time change can throw off everyone’s rhythm—especially babies and young children. Here are a few gentle tips to make the transition smoother:

🕰 Shift bedtime gradually – Start moving bedtime (and naps) 10–15 minutes earlier each night a few days before the time change.

🌤 Soak up morning light – Natural sunlight in the morning helps reset your child’s internal clock. Open those blinds and head outside if you can!

🌙 Keep bedtime routines consistent – The familiar rhythm of bath, books, and snuggles signals that it’s time to wind down, even if the clock says otherwise.

🍽 Adjust mealtimes – Shift meals and snacks gradually too—this helps regulate their internal cues.

💤 Be patient – It can take about a week for little bodies to fully adjust. Offer extra comfort and grace (for both of you!).

“Withholding skin-to-skin contact would now be considered unethical, as there is enough evidence to show that the practice improves newborn health and survival,” says Karin Cadwell, senior author and Executive Director and Lead Faculty of Healthy Children Project’s Center for Breastfeeding. “While the studies eligible for our review did not focus on survival, other research in low-resource settings has shown that skin-to-skin contact can be the difference between life and death in low birth weight infants. Recruitment for a large trial across Indian and African hospitals was halted after preliminary data showed that skin-to-skin contact significantly improved survival.”
