This Sunday, February 1 at 6 PM, communities across the country will gather in front of VA Medical Centers to honor the life and service of Alex Pretti and to stand with the mission he dedicated his life to: serving our veterans.

In Cleveland, we will join AFGE Local 31 in gathering outside of the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, 10701 East Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106.

This is a moment for remembrance, solidarity, and resolve. We honor Alex’s life, his service, and the values he stood for, and we commit ourselves to continuing the work of caring for those who served our country.

*Hospitals Are for Healing, NOT Immigration Enforcement*

As a healthcare workers' Union, we strongly oppose ICE agents in Minnesota hospitals. Armed federal agents in clinical spaces undermine patient safety, privacy, trust, and healthcare's core mission.

Healthcare workers have reported ICE agents present during intimate moments of care, including patient bathing. This compromises safe, focused, compassionate care and violates HIPAA protections - threatening patient privacy, confidentiality, and clinical judgment.

Hospitals must not become places of fear.
Immigration enforcement has no place at the bedside.

We call on Minnesota's hospital leadership to establish firm boundaries protecting patient privacy, clinical autonomy, and safe care environments. All patients deserve dignity and the right to seek medical care without fear. Healthcare workers deserve to perform their duties without interference or intimidation.
