The Press-Republican recently featured last week’s Healthcare Educational Consortium meeting at Adirondack Medical Center, where IHA joined education and healthcare leaders to discuss developing an Early College Health Sciences pathway tailored to the Adirondack region.

This initiative— supported by renewed funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation— aims to create new opportunities for local students by helping them:

• Earn college credits
• Gain hands-on clinical experience
• Build direct connections with local healthcare employers

All of this work supports a stronger, more sustainable healthcare workforce pipeline for communities across Upstate New York.

It’s truly inspiring to see schools, colleges, hospitals, and community partners coming together to invest in the future of regional healthcare. 🏥

BIG NEWS! 🎉 The Iroquois Healthcare Association has been named a 2025-2026 grantee of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation!

With their generous support, we can expand our Healthcare Educational Consortium to three sites across Upstate New York, creating pathways for local students to become the nurses and healthcare professionals our communities need - without leaving home.

Students in Franklin and Tompkins Counties, along with one additional site to be determined, will earn college credits while still in high school, gain real clinical experience, and build meaningful careers right here in their communities.

We are deeply grateful to the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation team and look forward to sharing the impact we're making together.

Read Iroquois Healthcare's Kevin Kerwin's op-ed today on 340B protections and what's at stake for rural hospitals.

Thirty years ago, Congress created the 340B program with a straightforward premise: drug manufacturers get access to Medicare and Medicaid markets, and they discount drugs to safety-net providers in return. For years, manufacturers have been chipping away at that arrangement by restricting discounts while keeping their market access, and now rural hospitals are feeling the consequences.

340B savings fund maternity care, behavioral health, emergency services, and chronic disease management at rural safety-net hospitals across Upstate and rural New York. The time is now for New York to join dozens of other states by enacting the 340B Anti-Discrimination Act, these services are at risk.
