HBOT and Anti-Aging
Recent research, particularly a landmark study published in the journal Aging, has shown that a course of 60 daily hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) sessions can indeed induce significant anti-aging effects at a cellular level.
This study involved healthy adults over 64 and found that HBOT led to:
Significant increases in telomere length in various immune system cells, including T helper, T cytotoxic, natural killer, and B cells, with some increases exceeding 20%. Telomeres are protective caps on chromosomes that shorten with age, and longer telomeres are associated with healthy aging.
A substantial decrease in the number of senescent cells (old, malfunctioning cells that contribute to aging), particularly in T helper cells.
In simpler terms, this research suggests that 60 sessions of HBOT can make certain blood cells "younger" biologically, potentially translating to broader anti-aging benefits.
It's important to note that HBOT for anti-aging is still a relatively new area of research, and further studies are needed to fully understand the long-term effects and optimal treatment protocols.
It's crucial to consult with a qualified healthcare professional before considering HBOT for anti-aging or any medical condition.
