I was born in 1978. 🫣
Just six years earlier, Title IX (1972) opened the doors for women to have equal access to education. Five years before I was born, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (1974) finally allowed women to obtain credit, including a credit card, in their own name.
And it wasn’t until 1988, when I was ten years old, that the Women’s Business Ownership Act gave women equal access to business loans without requiring a male co-signer.
I have benefited from all of these changes and more.
Because of the women who came before me, I was able to earn a full scholarship in college and become a first-generation college graduate. Today, I own my own business.
None of this happened in a vacuum.
I stand on the shoulders of women who pushed, fought, and refused to accept the limits placed on them.
On International Women’s Day, I pause to recognize the women who made these opportunities possible — and to say thank you. 🙏
