Many patients say their pain flares up when the weather shifts. Science hasn’t fully nailed down why, but the leading theory is this: changes in barometric pressure can affect the tissues around your joints, nerves, and even old injury sites. When pressure drops (like before a storm), tissues may swell slightly, and that can trigger pain.

It’s more common in people with arthritis, old injuries, or chronic conditions but anyone can feel it.

No, we can’t control the weather. But we can prepare. Gentle stretching, staying warm, using heat packs, and keeping up your movement routine can all help take the edge off.

Your pain might have a rhythm and that’s worth listening to.
