Today, on Memorial Day, we honor those who gave their lives so we can live in freedom.
Last week, I stood on French soil alongside and the .de , German War Graves Commission, to honor six fallen German-Jewish soldiers from WWI—men who had been buried under crosses, though they lived and died as Jews.
Meier Levi, Julius Loewenstein, Moses Cohen, Eduard Moses, Friedrich Rahmer, and Siegmund Metzler. Their names are now etched into a new monument that reflects their true identity and the faith they lived by.
It was the first ceremony under a new initiative called Operation Levi—a mission to restore Jewish dignity even after a century. I had the privilege of helping uncover some of these names and be in touch with their families.
There is no statute of limitations on gratitude. May their memories be a blessing.
