Congratulations to Diana and Paul on the birth of your beautiful premie son! Today, Dr. Hakimi arrived back in the office after another long night. Diana, who was pregnant at 32 weeks, experienced decreased fetal movement. She came to the Labor and Delivery at Hackensack Meridian Pascack Valley Medical Center last night. Dr. Hakimi quickly arrived and checked mom and the baby. Baby's heart strip monitors were reassuring at times, and they were questionable at others. Difficult decisions had to be made in order to deliver Diana prematurely. Steroids were given to accelerate fetal lung maturity. However, steroids need 48 hours after administration to work. Finally, with Dr. Hakimi 's experience and judgment, he decided to deliver Diana. Upon entry into the abdomen, an almost ruptured uterus was discovered. What else? The cord was wrapped around the baby's neck four times very tightly. Cases like this usually end up with a sudden fetal demise, but mirculously, we were able to deliver a healthy baby.
We want to express our gratitude to the NICU nurses, neunatoglogist, and the rest of the hardworking staff. Because of your dedication, baby boy is doing excellent, and requires no ventellation, acting like a term mature baby. We really appreciate you.
