This past week, 11 of us from across FAN — operations, our diversion teams in Macomb & Bay counties, and our Detroit Quick Response Team — traveled to New Orleans for the PTACC 2025 International Deflection & Pre-Arrest Diversion Summit.
We were honored to present two breakout sessions:
“Levels of Deflection and Diversion” — opened by our Executive Director, Linda D., who shared FAN’s origin story and how the early days of working alongside public safety shaped the foundation of the work we do today. The session was moderated by Dunya K., FAN’s Director of Operations, with insights from Erin W. (Director of FAN’s Quick Response Teams) and Ari L. (Diversion Case Management Supervisor). Together, they outlined FAN’s statewide model for deflection and diversion—built through partnerships with more than 150 police and fire departments.
“Seeing the Impact: Leveraging Data to Transform Deflection Programs” — presented by Dunya K. alongside our longtime data partners at Data Bloom, Tim NeCamp and David Mackey. This interactive session highlighted how a five-year collaboration helped FAN streamline data across programs, avoid silos, improve participant outcomes, and build a data-first system that supports our team’s day-to-day decisions.
It was energizing to connect with leaders from across the country doing similar deflection and diversion work in their own communities.
A huge thank you to PTACC for hosting such a thoughtful, practitioner-focused summit — and to LEAD NOLA for a memorable walking tour of the Vieux Carré, the 8th District, beignets, riverfront views, Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, and more.
We’re always inspired by the people across the country who show up for this work every day — and we’re grateful to return home grounded, energized, and ready for what’s next.
