Face Addiction Now

Face Addiction Now WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2007 as a grassroots organization, Face Addiction Now (FAN) is based in Macomb County, Michigan. Many are between the age of 18-25.

Face Addiction Now is a nonprofit guiding individuals, families, & communities affected by substance use disorder by coordinating care and reducing stigma, through a variety of programs & resources, at no cost, fostering a path towards healing & recovery. FAN’s membership includes parents affected by addiction, concerned citizens, law enforcement, judges, leaders in education, business, and religi

on, and people in recovery from a substance use disorder. FAN has expanded to more than 20 chapters throughout the state of Michigan. WHAT WE DO
We work tirelessly to raise awareness and educate communities about the dangers of prescription narcotics (e.g., Vicodin, Oxycontin, and Percocet), as well as other drugs. We also offer compassionate support and services to individuals and families affected by addiction. Our initiatives include Hope Not Handcuffs, the Comeback Quick Response Team post-overdose wellness check, and Stronger Together, a 12-step program for friends and family of those with a substance use disorder. (For information on all the programs FAN offers, visit our website at faceaddictionnow.org)

THE NEW FACE OF ADDICTION
Prescription drugs have become the “drug of choice” among young people aged 12-18. Most who misuse these drugs believe they are safer than illicit drugs because they are prescribed by health care professionals. Yet, prescription painkillers are every bit as addictive and deadly as heroin, when abused. Nearly 255 people die from drug overdoses every day in the United States. Thousands more are struggling or in recovery. These are good kids from good families. And it’s happening everywhere--no neighborhood is immune. Be informed. Knowledge saves lives. TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE
Join us in keeping our families and communities safe:
• Challenge doctors and dentists to prescribe non-narcotic painkillers for you and your family
• Safeguard narcotic painkillers and dispose of unused medications responsibly
• Talk to your children about the dangers of abusing prescription medications and heroin use
If you suspect a loved one is in trouble, seek help immediately.

Thank you to volunteer Angel Haley K. for her help this month. And kudos to the many law enforcement agencies and community partners who collaborated with us (𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀). Teamwork makes the dream work and we appreciate you! 👮

What happens AFTER an overdose?

The moments that follow can shape everything that comes next.

Join us later this month for our May FAN Forum:

A powerful panel will bring together frontline experts and lived experience to share what real, compassionate response looks like—and why it matters. Among the panelists (pictured l to r):

• 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 – Family & addiction medicine physician and leader in street medicine and harm reduction
• 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗡𝗣 – Nurse practitioner focused on equitable, patient-centered care and improving outcomes for underserved communities

Alongside members of FAN’s Detroit Quick Response Team and a program participant, they’ll explore how connection—not judgment—creates pathways to recovery.

At Run Drugs Out of Town, you don't have to ask why someone is there.

You can see it on the shirts they wear—names, faces, dates, messages that mean everything.

Each one tells a story.

Some shirts honor a son or daughter. Others remember a sibling, a friend, a parent. Each shirt is a way of carrying that person forward—making sure they are seen, remembered, and part of the day.

For many, it's one of the most meaningful ways they show up.

You'll see people walking side by side, wearing the same name. Families, friends, entire teams united in memory—sharing a story that continues long after the loss.

This is one of the most powerful traditions at Run Drugs Out of Town.

And one you'll never forget.

When you participate in our 18th Annual Run Drugs Out of Town 5K, you become part of a community that remembers, honors, and carries these stories forward—together.

We’re proud to celebrate an incredible honor for an incredible leader. 💙

Congratulations to our Executive Director, Linda Davis, on being named a Notable Leader in Health Care by Crain’s Detroit Business!

Linda has been at the heart of Face Addiction Now since day one—helping found FAN in 2007 and guiding its growth from a small, grassroots effort into a statewide organization serving thousands of individuals and families every year.

Her leadership is grounded in compassion, action, and an unwavering commitment to making sure no one has to navigate substance use disorder alone. From her years on the bench to her work in the community, Linda has dedicated her life to helping people find connection, support, and a path forward.

This recognition is a reflection of the impact she’s made—and continues to make—across Michigan and beyond.

Please join us in congratulating Linda on this well-deserved honor 👏

Amy is at it again. 👏

Today she presented “Implementing Multiple Pathways and Enhancing Recovery Capital” at the MiPEERS Conference — continuing to be a powerful voice for the idea that recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all.

She doesn’t just talk about multiple pathways. She lives and breathes it. 💜

As FAN’s Recovery Community Coordinator, Amy has helped expand the recovery pathways we offer.

Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day—and awareness saves lives.

Fentanyl is involved in a growing number of overdoses, but there are tools that can help prevent tragedy.

FAN provides:
💙 Free naloxone training
💙 Free naloxone (Narcan)
💙 Free fentanyl test strips

Naloxone can reverse an overdose. Test strips can help prevent one.

These small steps can make a life-saving difference.

If you don’t have naloxone or don’t know how to use it—now is the time to learn. Find out more on our website: https://faceaddictionnow.org/programs/naloxone-training

This past Saturday, FAN employees Esme and Nancy (2nd & 3rd from left) partnered with an incredible group at Corewell Health Medical Center in Troy for the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Together with ER nurses, a Sterling Heights police officer, a pharmacist, and others, they helped collect unused and unwanted medications—keeping them out of homes and out of the wrong hands.

Take Back Day happens twice a year and is all about providing a safe, convenient way to dispose of medications while raising awareness about the potential for misuse.

We’re grateful for partnerships like this that help keep our communities safe. 💙

These Peer Recovery Coaches are representing FAN at the annual MIPeers Conference in Novi today and tomorrow!

We’re proud to have these amazing folks joining peer support professionals, advocates, and community leaders from across Michigan for this dynamic statewide gathering.

This year’s conference is focused on:
• Expanding awareness and access to evidence-based practices
• Strengthening tools for peer-led initiatives
• Building skills across multiple pathways to recovery
• Creating connections and advancing partnerships statewide

We’re excited for the learning, collaboration, and connections that will continue strengthening the work we do every day. 💙
