Face Addiction Now

Face Addiction Now WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2007 as a grassroots organization, Face Addiction Now (FAN) is based in Macomb County, Michigan. Many are between the age of 18-25.

Face Addiction Now is a nonprofit guiding individuals, families, & communities affected by substance use disorder by coordinating care and reducing stigma, through a variety of programs & resources, at no cost, fostering a path towards healing & recovery. FAN’s membership includes parents affected by addiction, concerned citizens, law enforcement, judges, leaders in education, business, and religion, and people in recovery from a substance use disorder. FAN has expanded to more than 20 chapters throughout the state of Michigan. WHAT WE DO
We work tirelessly to raise awareness and educate communities about the dangers of prescription narcotics (e.g., Vicodin, Oxycontin, and Percocet), as well as other drugs. We also offer compassionate support and services to individuals and families affected by addiction. Our initiatives include Hope Not Handcuffs, the Comeback Quick Response Team post-overdose wellness check, and Stronger Together, a 12-step program for friends and family of those with a substance use disorder. (For information on all the programs FAN offers, visit our website at faceaddictionnow.org)

THE NEW FACE OF ADDICTION
Prescription drugs have become the “drug of choice” among young people aged 12-18. Most who misuse these drugs believe they are safer than illicit drugs because they are prescribed by health care professionals. Yet, prescription painkillers are every bit as addictive and deadly as heroin, when abused. Nearly 255 people die from drug overdoses every day in the United States. Thousands more are struggling or in recovery. These are good kids from good families. And it’s happening everywhere--no neighborhood is immune. Be informed. Knowledge saves lives. TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE
Join us in keeping our families and communities safe:
• Challenge doctors and dentists to prescribe non-narcotic painkillers for you and your family
• Safeguard narcotic painkillers and dispose of unused medications responsibly
• Talk to your children about the dangers of abusing prescription medications and heroin use
If you suspect a loved one is in trouble, seek help immediately.

As an Impact100 grant recipient, our team was honored to share an update on how this funding is supporting families through FAN’s Healthy Families program—helping women, fathers, and children impacted by substance use disorder access compassionate, wraparound care.

Designed to meet people where they are, Healthy Families supports parents and caregivers in creating safe, stable, and nurturing home environments. Services include individualized case management, basic needs support, treatment navigation, access to prenatal and medical care, and guidance through CPS or legal systems—paired with healing-centered support groups and ongoing follow-up from FAN’s trained staff.

Since launching, this support has already reached more than 70+ participants across Macomb, Wayne, and Oakland counties.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect in such an intimate setting and for Impact100’s continued investment in programs that strengthen families and communities.

Pictured here are Tracy K., FAN Case Manager; Kim B., Director of Hope Not Handcuffs; and Chelsea S., FAN’s Clinical Director, enjoying the evening at Consign Couture while celebrating the real difference Impact100’s support is making through our Healthy Families program.

Yesterday, we held our annual Face Addiction Now and Sterling Heights Police Department meeting, hosted by SHPD.

It was a chance to celebrate the work, hear directly from officers involved in the program, and talk honestly about what’s working — and where we can keep improving. We also heard from leaders who continue to advocate for this model and help reduce barriers so more people can access support.

Looking at our 2025 data, overdoses are down 75% this year.

We’re grateful for partnerships across many police departments, but Sterling Heights holds a special place for FAN. This work reflects what’s possible when commitment, trust, and follow-through are shared.

This past week, 11 of us from across FAN — operations, our diversion teams in Macomb & Bay counties, and our Detroit Quick Response Team — traveled to New Orleans for the PTACC 2025 International Deflection & Pre-Arrest Diversion Summit.

We were honored to present two breakout sessions:

“Levels of Deflection and Diversion” — opened by our Executive Director, Linda D., who shared FAN’s origin story and how the early days of working alongside public safety shaped the foundation of the work we do today. The session was moderated by Dunya K., FAN’s Director of Operations, with insights from Erin W. (Director of FAN’s Quick Response Teams) and Ari L. (Diversion Case Management Supervisor). Together, they outlined FAN’s statewide model for deflection and diversion—built through partnerships with more than 150 police and fire departments.

“Seeing the Impact: Leveraging Data to Transform Deflection Programs” — presented by Dunya K. alongside our longtime data partners at Data Bloom, Tim NeCamp and David Mackey. This interactive session highlighted how a five-year collaboration helped FAN streamline data across programs, avoid silos, improve participant outcomes, and build a data-first system that supports our team’s day-to-day decisions.

It was energizing to connect with leaders from across the country doing similar deflection and diversion work in their own communities.

A huge thank you to PTACC for hosting such a thoughtful, practitioner-focused summit — and to LEAD NOLA for a memorable walking tour of the Vieux Carré, the 8th District, beignets, riverfront views, Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, and more.

We’re always inspired by the people across the country who show up for this work every day — and we’re grateful to return home grounded, energized, and ready for what’s next.
