On Friday, our Life Skills team hosted two rounds of their monthly Cafe & Marketplace event, this time in a new location and featuring different clients in each session.
During this event, teen and young adult clients have the opportunity to create and “sell” handcrafted items to staff members and parents, building real-world skills they can carry with them far beyond the clinic.
January’s Cafe & Marketplace included handmade soap bars, pen and badge holder sets, wintry bookmarks and wreaths, plus always-fresh popcorn.
We are incredibly grateful to our Life Skills clinic leaders for all their work organizing and hosting such meaningful and fun events each month. We’ll see you at the next Cafe & Marketplace!

Love isn’t always expressed in ways we expect, but it is always present. For many individuals on the autism spectrum, love is shared through unique and deeply meaningful moments that deserve to be seen and understood.
As we step into the "Month of Love", we’re sharing a blog post that explores how to recognize, nurture, and celebrate loving relationships with children and individuals with autism.
Developing relationships when you have autism is just as important as it is for those who don’t. Learn how to connect with your child.

When attention rests in the present, the mind softens, the body steadies, and moving forward feels lighter.
At Healing Haven, mindfulness is not only a key part of our Counseling and Stress Management services for families navigating special needs diagnoses, it is also a practice we prioritize with our team and our clients every day.
Let this be your inspiration to embrace mindfulness this week - your nervous system will thank you.

We are a Behavioral Health Center of Excellence providing ABA Therapy for children with autism and other developmental needs from the ages of 2-16. We serve the entire family through our Parent Training Program, Stress Management and Counseling.
Founded in 2010 by Jamie McGillivary, MS, LLP, BCBA, we are a team of professionals that have dedicated our lives to bettering the lives of families of children with special needs. We specialize in autism, though we are skilled at treating all children that have behavioral issues or deficits in the area of socialization, language and play.
We are “out of the box” thinkers when it comes to our treatment approach that is rooted in ABA therapy. We believe in listening to each family’s unique set of needs, and creating a plan that treats everyone in the family, all while meeting each person where they are at in their journey.
Research very clearly states that early intervention for children with developmental disabilities is a must. When children receive intervention early on, the likelihood of negative behaviors decreases, because appropriate behaviors are taught from the beginning.
Although the premise of early intervention is logical, very little consideration has been given to the concept of early intervention for parental coping skills. When a parent is given the tools to both teach their child and take care of themselves, they maximize their child’s outcome, while maintaining the cohesiveness within their family.
