Our Beginnings - The Church of Christ Care Center began in 1941 when a group of local Christians saw the need of providing a home for the elderly of their community. They purchased a house in Ferndale, Michigan for that purpose and placed it under a board of directors. In 1948 the Northwest Church of Christ in Detroit was asked to assume the oversight of this mission. In 1950 the Care Center moved to an estate just east of Romeo. A 12-bed addition, built in 1956, increased our capacity to 29 beds. In 1960 our status changed from a “home for the aged” (residential care only) to a combination of residential care and nursing care. Finally in 1963 we became an all nursing home facility.
In July of 1971 the Northeast Church of Christ in Eastpointe was asked to take the oversight of the Care Center and immediately began plans to enlarge its capacity. In 1975 construction began on our current 130-bed nursing facility in Clinton Township. It was completed in May of 1977 and the residents and staff from Romeo moved into their new home.
Senior Housing Expanded our Mission - In March of 1982 we expanded our mission with a Senior Housing complex, a neighborhood of 52 brick garden-style apartments subsidized for low income seniors.
And 2002 saw the opening of our 96-unit Assisted Living facility, blending apartment living with multiple levels of daily support services.
Our Present Campus - Our present campus in Clinton Township has allowed us to realize our dream of providing seniors with a range of services to meet changing needs, all at one location. We have grown to include a nursing facility offering rehabilitation and long term care, assisted living with multiple levels of support services, and subsidized apartments for low-income residents.
As our name indicates, we are a Christian ministry with our roots in the non-denominational churches of Christ. For us, our faith is not just a matter of religious formalities. It is the very foundation of what the Care Center is all about.
Our Ministry Of Service
God’s love for us inspires us to follow Jesus’ example of service to others. The words of Jesus, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me,” speak plainly to us every day. We are dedicated to ministering to our residents and their families by providing outstanding care in a loving environment, going far beyond the basics of mere physical services to offering the true care that touches hearts and lives. It is this dedication to meeting the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of each individual that defines the Care Center’s ministry of service.
Our Ministry Of Faith
Christians in their senior years often find religious activities and time shared with other people of faith especially meaningful. Yet at this time of life many can no longer get out to attend church services as they once did. Cherished time in worship with other believers “for some, a lifelong practice” has to be given up, and the loss can be felt keenly. From our very beginning, we recognized the importance of providing a home where people could continue to enjoy the comfort and blessing of a rich spiritual life. For this reason, we have a full-time Chaplain on staff to minister to residents’ spiritual needs. On Sundays, he conducts non-denominational worship services with communion - or invites other churches of Christ to host this time of worship. During the week, our Chaplain leads informal devotionals, thoughts for the day, Bible studies, and hymn singing which are very popular with our residents and visitors. Our Chaplain is also available for counseling for residents and family members, especially during difficult times of transition. Of course, at Church of Christ Care Center, Assisted Living, and Senior Housing, we accept and respect people regardless of religious belief and welcome your personal religious leader to minister to you.
The Church of Christ Care Center provides for seniors of Southeastern Michigan excellent, faith-based care at each stage of their lives; independence, assistance, nursing; and in every facet of their lives; physical, social, mental and spiritual. We meet the special needs of the aged with special care.
We glorify God and serve Jesus by being a recognized provider of quality senior services in our community.
Respect: We look to the Golden Rule to lead us to respect the dignity of our residents, their families and our employees.
