We are a full-service acute and sub-acute care regional medical center with more than 50,000 emergency room visits and 20,000 admissions each year. We're to welcome Dr. Aley El-Din M. Tohamy, Chair of Surgery at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Dr. Tohamy has extensive expertise in minimally invasive, robotic, bariatric, and general surgery. He specializes in advanced laparoscopic procedures, complex hernia repair, and robotic surgery, with expertise in bariatric surgery and its role in treating metabolic disease.

The conditions he treats include obesity, diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, metabolic disease, and hiatal hernias. He performs specialized procedures such as bariatric surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, as well as general surgeries for the gall bladder, colon, and small bowel. He utilizes robotic and minimally invasive procedures, resulting in faster recoveries and less pain for his patients.

For busy families, access to care can make all the difference.

“Both of our girls went through a miserable stretch of passing pink eye back and forth, and as a parent, it felt like we were constantly trying to stay one step ahead. We knew it wasn’t an emergency, but primary care visits were booked for weeks, and our urgent care centers were packed.
