I'm Excited to share this is happening at Indiana State University next semester....
This upcoming Spring Semester, Indiana State University will be expanding its Advanced Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Program, thereby providing more students with the chance to engage in advanced hands-on training. This program is particularly beneficial for those aspiring to pursue graduate degrees in fields such as Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractic, and Osteopathic Medicine (DO). With this expansion, our enrollment capacity may exceed 70 students each semester, potentially setting a record for the largest number of massage therapy students at a single institution.

I would like to express my gratitude to the collaborative efforts of esteemed professionals including Dr. Erik Dalton, founder of the Freedom From Pain Institute and developer of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques; Dr. Steven Capobianco, cofounder and director of RockTape Education; Dr. Jason Wersland, founder and wellness director of TherBody.com; and Dr. John Pommier, our Department Chair, whose unwavering advocacy has been pivotal to our program's success. I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside these exceptional individuals over the past 13 years. Thank you all for your support!

More on Rope-Flow....
Rope flow, often seen as a dynamic form of exercise, offers numerous benefits for both the body and mind. This rhythmic activity combines elements of flow and movement, resulting in an engaging workout that enhances cardiovascular fitness, strength, and coordination. The continuous motion of the rope encourages the development of muscular endurance, particularly in the core and upper body, which are essential for maintaining proper posture and stability. In addition to physical gains, rope flow promotes flexibility and agility, as participants are required to adapt their movements in real time, creating a full-body experience that challenges the body's limits.

Beyond the physical dimensions, rope flow serves as a powerful tool for mental well-being. The meditative nature of the rhythmic swinging can alleviate stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of mindfulness that allows practitioners to be fully present in the moment. This flow state is often associated with improved mood and emotional resilience, as the act of focusing on the repetitive motion can serve as a form of active meditation. Furthermore, incorporating music or rhythmic patterns can enhance enjoyment, creating a pleasurable exercise experience that motivates individuals to engage regularly and maintain consistency in their fitness routines.

An intriguing aspect of rope flow is its connection to brain function, particularly through the concept of crossing the mid-line. When participants move the rope across their body’s center-line, they stimulate both hemispheres of the brain, fostering improved coordination and cognitive functioning. This action engages neural pathways that can enhance problem-solving skills, creativity, and spatial awareness. By integrating movements that cross the mid-line, rope flow offers a unique way to support brain health, making it a holistic exercise option that benefits not only physical fitness but also cognitive development. In essence, rope flow is a delightful and comprehensive approach to enhancing overall well-being, creating a harmonious blend of body and mind benefits.

Let’s dive into the wonderful world of rope flow and how it benefits both your body and mind. Rope flow is not just a fun way to break a sweat; it’s an incredible full-body workout that engages multiple muscle groups. As you swing the rope, you’re not only getting your heart rate up but also developing strength, coordination, and flexibility. It’s a fantastic way to build endurance, making your body more resilient over time. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t feel a little boost of happiness after a good workout?

Now, let’s talk about the mental perks. Rope flow is almost like a moving meditation. The rhythm of the rope and the fluidity of the movements can help sharpen your focus and clear your mind. It requires you to tune into your body, creating a mind-body connection that promotes mindfulness. Plus, the repetitive nature of the flow helps to reduce stress and anxiety, providing a calming effect that can carry over into other areas of your life. Think of it as a little escape where you can let go of the daily hustle and just groove with the rope.

One of the coolest things about rope flow is how it encourages crossing the mid-line, which is fabulous for brain health! When you swing the rope from one side of your body to the other, you’re engaging both hemispheres of your brain. This cross-body movement can enhance neurological connections and improve coordination, balance, and cognitive function. It’s a simple yet effective way to keep your brain sharp while also enjoying the physical benefits. So, grab a rope, start flowing, and watch how it makes you feel both mentally and physically!

Let’s take a look at some of the potential benefits of rope flow - a training tool I use to practice rotational movement patterns and keep the old mind & bod...

BAYLOR UNIVERSITY PUBLISHES LARGEST STUDY EVER ON MASSAGE THERAPY USE
July 2024

"Many people receive massage therapy and for many reasons. But according to a new study – the largest and most comprehensive ever conducted on the subject – the prevalence of visits to massage therapists is higher than one might have imagined and the reasons may be surprising."

“What our study shows is that it’s probably not helpful any longer to label massage as an ‘alternative’ therapy, with all of the marginality that the term conveys.”

“Licensed massage therapists ought to be respected as mainstream practitioners, whose profession provides a therapeutic approach not just to address pain and functional challenges but to foster wellness and overall well-being, physical and emotional.

Everyone can benefit from working with a skilled massage therapist. They’re the hidden gems in the healthcare system.” - Jeff Levin, Ph.D., M.P.H., University Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health. (Robert Rogers/Baylor University)

Palpation -
Arguably the Best tool in your manual therapy toolbox --Palpation-- If you don't focus on what you are feeling as you touch your client your Palpation Skills will never improve. I know when I was in Massage College I don't remember them teaching me this technique of using my ability to feel for high & low tone in the client's body whenever I touched it.

Just this simple technique will tune you in to the client's Nervous System. Also, arguably the most important system for us manual therapist to be tuned into. Dr. Eric Cobb founder of Z-Health opening statement to Z-Health training is "Everything you have ever done or felt in your life is due to "Brain Function"...You are Brain Derived...

Saying this how important is it to be tuned into your client's Nervous System, if you are a Manual Therapist---It's Huge---

So, next time you touch your client pay attention and notice those high tone, sensitive, or painful areas because they are telling you that your client's Nervous System is trying to compensate for some reason. If you can determine why, you'll make a Huge difference for them....Just Saying👍❤👍
