We would like to take a moment to share a recent success through our Safe Passage Initiative. On Wednesday afternoon, our department was contacted by a family member concerned about a loved one struggling with addiction and unsure of where to turn. An intervention was arranged, and the individual agreed to meet with us—an important and courageous first step toward a healthier and safer path.
The individual met with Chief Lowers, completed an intake screening, and was promptly connected with treatment resources. Within hours, and with the assistance of our partnering service providers, they were admitted into a residential treatment program to begin their recovery journey. We wish them the very best and will continue to support them every step of the way.
The Safe Passage Initiative was created to ensure individuals battling addiction can access help - not in days or weeks, but immediately. Those seeking support may contact the Clinton Police Department and, when applicable, surrender their drugs without fear of arrest or criminal charges. While this program is not a “get out of jail free” card, it is designed to give those who are ready to make a change the opportunity for hope, healing, and recovery.
The Clinton Police Department is committed to proactive problem-solving—addressing the challenges of substance abuse, not only through proactive enforcement, but through supportive programs such as the Safe Passage Initiative, DART (which provides deflection support services for individuals facing mental health crises and substance use disorders), and ROSC (a local organization dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery).
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please don't hesitate to reach out to discuss how we may be able to help.
