25 years. 200+ women. Nearly 400 children reunited with their mothers.

A few weeks ago, we gathered at Diane's House in Trenton to celebrate a milestone that belongs to every woman who walked through those doors, every child who got their mother back, and every person who believed in this work before it was easy.

The Family Afterward Program has been a model of what family-centered recovery can look like, not just treating addiction, but rebuilding lives, one mother at a time. Named in honor of former First Lady of New Jersey Diane DiFrancesco, Diane's House stands as a reminder that every mother deserves a second chance, and every child deserves their family.

To the women of Diane's House, past, present, and future, thank you for your courage. This celebration is yours.

The substance-use epidemic is evolving, and our response has to keep up.

According to the American Medical Association, opioid-related overdose deaths dropped from over 110,000 in 2023 to 75,000 in 2025. That's real progress. But nearly 60% of those deaths now involve more than one substance, and illicitly manufactured fentanyl continues to drive the crisis in unpredictable ways.

Effective treatment exists. Medications like buprenorphine have proven to save lives, with prescriptions growing tenfold over the last decade. Yet stigma, insurance barriers, and gaps in access still keep too many people from getting the care they need and deserve.

At Freedom House, we believe every person deserves timely, evidence-based care, regardless of their ability to pay. We accept NJ Medicaid, some private insurance, and grant funding, and no one is turned away from our Outpatient Services due to lack of funding.
